PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2024) - Just three days after scoring a season-best four goals, Georgian Court Women's Soccer sputtered against the CACC preseason favorite Jefferson Rams. The Rams got a goal late in the first half and held on for a 1-0 win. The loss puts GCU at 3-2 on the year and they start conference play 0-1.
How it Happened
• Jefferson played in the offensive zone for much of the game. They doubled up the Lions in shots 22-10 and 12-7 in the second half.
• The Lions were the more accurate team putting 50% of their shots on target while the Rams were under 33%.
• Georgian Court, one of the better teams in the CACC at earning corner kicks did not get to the corner once. Jefferson was awarded five kicks from the corner.
• Fouls were even with the Lions called for eight and the Rams seven. The Lions were called for two yellow cards, both on
Abby Kennelly, meaning her second yellow turned red.
• Kennelly had the first shot attempt of the game. She was stopped by Jefferson goalkeeper Liv Riddel.
Seanna Boan and
Chelsea Lavezzo also tested Riddel early who was up to task each time.Â
• Jefferson didn't get their first shot attempts until the 23rd minute and
Emma Bennett made her first save in the 29th minute.
• Late in the half, the Rams really began generating pressure. Bennett made another save on Mia Ferrara, then Evelin Ventura Garcia hit the crossbar.
• The Lions cleared the ball out of the box but not the zone as Jefferson maintained offensive possession and seconds later, Abby Cargile's innocuous looking shot floated towards Bennett's right. It took a short hop near the goal line and skipped in with 1:13 left to play in the half.
• Heading into the second half, Jefferson continued to keep up the pressure. They took two quick shots on Bennett , but she was able to corral them both.
• Midway through, the Lions had a chance to score with three shots in a three minute span. Only Kennelly's reached the net though and Riddel kept it out.Â
• The Rams defense stymied the Lions the rest of the way, who couldn't generate much in the closing minutes of the 1-0 loss.Â
