Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lavezzo Scores Two More as Bennett and the Lions Blank Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer continues to roll, picking up their second straight win and fifth of the year Tuesday afternoon. The Lions shutout Holy Family 2-0 behind Emma Bennett in net and two more goals from Chelsea Lavezzo. The win puts the Lions at 5-2 on the year and 2-1 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• It was a very entertaining game with plenty of chances from both teams. The Lions took 20 shots to HFU's 19 and put nine on net. The Tigers were able to get eight shots on goal.
• Georgian Court had plenty of set-piece opportunities earning 12 corner kicks to the Tigers' two.
• Neither team was issued a card and HFU was called for nine fouls and the Lions whistled for eight.
• The Lions stormed out of the gates hoping to take an early lead. They earned two corner kicks in the first four minutes and rattled off five shots, one hitting the crossbar and staying out.
• Holy Family survived that onslaught and responded with some offensive pressure of their own.
• GCU put three more shots on goal, all stopped by Jaina Preuhs.
• Midway through the first, GCU took three straight corner kicks, but again were spurned at each opportunity.
• Finally with 10 minutes to play in the half, the Lions broke through. A ball sent down the right sideline found Chiamaka Wokocha who had just subbed on less than a minute prior. Wokocha directed a pass towards the middle where Chelsea Lavezzo split two defenders to one-time time the ball into the net for a 1-0 GCU lead.
• Holy Family got two more shots on Bennett before the end of the half, but she handled those chances and the Lions kept their 1-0 at halftime.
• The Lions started the second 45 earning back-to-back corner kicks and getting a shot on goal but couldn't extend the lead.
• HFU had a flurry of chances 15 minutes into the second with three shots, but Bennett kept the ball out.
• Breaking out after Bennett's latest save, Seanna Boan sent a ball into the offensive zone for Lavezzo. She again beat the defender, corralled the ball, shot and scored giving the Lions a 2-0 edge with a little less than 30 minutes to play.
• Bennett made two more saves the rest of the game and the Lions defense held strong to preserve the 2-0 shutout.
