ORANGEBURG, NY (Sept. 28, 2024) - Behind three second-half goals, Georgian Court Women's Soccer defeated Dominican 4-1. They improve to 6-2-0 on the season and 3-1 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• This game featured plenty of offense with each team ripping of 25 shots.
• The Lions were the more accurate team putting 13 on goal and the Chargers 10.
• Georgian Court earned four corner kicks in each half. Dominican totaled five for the game.
• The Chargers were called for 13 fouls and the Lions 10. GCU was booked with the only yellow card.
• After a scoreless 20 minutes, the Lions took their first lead. It was
Chelsea Lavezzo again, receiving a feed from
Sophia Ridolfo and finishing for the game's first goal.
• The Lions threatened late in the half, but Dominican's defense held strong and after 45 minutes, GCU was still up 1-0.
• Early in the second, a foul on Dominican in the box gave the Lions a penalty kick opportunity. GCU had been 0-2 this season on penalties and gave Ridolfo a chance at the dot. She connected to put GCU ahead 2-0.
• Ten minutes later, Georgian Court returned the favor with a foul in the box setting Dominican up for their own penalty kick opportunity. The Chargers didn't miss and cut the lead in half, 2-1 with 30 minutes remaining.
• The Lions regained a two-goal lead with just over 10 minutes left to play.
Chiamaka Wokocha put the Lions up 3-1 with an assist from
Juliana Rettino.
• In the closing seconds,
Seanna Boan put the finishing touches on the match scoring with less than a minute to play to put the match out of reach, 4-1.
