Caldwell Pulls Away In Second Half to Defeat Lions

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Jan. 11, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball never led Saturday afternoon in their 89-73 loss to Caldwell. The Cougars jumped ahead quickly and maintained that lead the rest of the way to drop the Lions in their first home game of the 2025 calendar year.

How it Happened
• Caldwell had an excellent day shooting the ball connecting on 55% overall and 38% from behind the arc.
• The Lions shot 42% from the floor and were 6-24 from three.
• GCU did a good job at the foul line making 15-17. Caldwell also hit 15 of 22 attempts.
• Caldwell had the edge on the glass, 36-30.
• Turnover numbers were even, but only Caldwell was able to take advantage. They scored 18 points off 14 Lion turnovers. GCU meanwhile scored just three on 12 Cougar giveaway.
First Half
• Caldwell scored on their first shot of the game and quickly jumped out to a 13-3 lead five minutes into the contest.
• A Justin Harper three and Khalil Baker layup cut that lead down in half, but the Cougars answered with their own 5-0 run right after.
• Georgian Court stayed at arms length. Cam Edmonds again made it a five-point game, 21-16 with a three-pointer midway through the half.
• Miles White cut it down to four, 24-20 with a layup.
• Caldwell went on a 9-0 run though, bringing the lead back into double-figures at 33-20.
• The Lions finished the half scored eight of 13 points and trailed by eight, 38-30 at the break.
Second Half
• For as sharp as Caldwell was in the first half, they were even hotter in the second. They shot 64.3% hitting 18-28 from the floor and never let the Lions make it a close game.
• GCU was down five with 16:42 left after a Justin Soranno layup. 
• Things were still competitive with GCU down eight, 54-46, following a flagrant 1 foul that gave GCU two free throws and possession.
• After the foul though, Caldwell went on a 14-2 capped off with a three-pointer to go up 20, 70-50 with under 10 minutes remaining.
• Georgian Court was never able to get back to within single digits and Caldwell cruised from there to an 89-73 win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Cam Edmonds scored a team-high 16 points with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
• Miles White went 8-8 at the foul line and scored 12 with a team-high four assists.
• Justin Soranno added 11 points and five rebounds.
• Donavin Crawford was 3-4 from three and scored 10.
• Khalil Baker chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.

For the Cougars
• DeAngelo Horn was 10-12 overall scoring a game-high 24 points.
• Derrick Bueno was 7-9 for 18 points with four rebounds and five assists.
• Mark Heber scored 13 going 5-8 overall.
• Melvin Evans added 10 points with five rebounds.

News and Notes
• The Lions 88.2% free throw percentage was their highest this season with at least 10 attempts. 
• Cam Edmonds made his 200th career field goal, just the seventh Lion to reach that.
• Georgian Court is now 3-9 all-time against Caldwell.
