LAKEWOOD, NJ (Jan. 14, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball picked up another CACC win Tuesday night as they took down Holy Family 75-66. The night didn't start well with the Lions spotting Holy Family the first 11 points, but GCU roared back to grab a lead at the half and extended that in the second to hold on. The win moves the Lions to 2-3 in the CACC this season.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court shot 43.3% overall for the night compared to the Tigers 36%.
• While the Lions finished at 22% from three, it was a shade better than HFU's 19%.
• GCU made a living at the foul line, hitting 25-32. The Tigers sunk 17-24.
• Holy Family was the stronger team on the glass, 43-32. That includes bettering the Lions 16-4 on the offensive glass as they outscored GCU 19-2 in second-chance points.
• Georgian Court forced the Tigers into twice as many turnovers, 12-6. The Lions scored 12 points off those 12 giveaways.
First Half
• The Tigers stunned Georgian Court early, scoring the first 11 points. Georgian Court's first points didn't come until more than four minutes into the game, a
Donavin Crawford layup, to get the Lions on the board.
• The Lions were able to get the lead back down to single digits, then used a 14-2 run over 3:56.
Cam Edmonds hit a jumper at the 8:28 for their first lead, 20-19, then a layup to put GCU up three, 22-19.
• From there, Georgian Court led the rest of the way.Â
• Holy Family kept it close. Crawford's layup to put GCU up six, 33-27, was the Lions largest lead of the half.
• After a pair of Tiger free throws brought the lead down to one,
Thomas Menegus made a layup, bringing the score to 35-32 at the break.
Second Half
• It took less than three minutes for the Lions to extend the lead into double-figures. Edmonds with a driving layup got the foul call and earned three the hard way as the Lions went up 44-34.
• The lead hovered around there for a bit. Holy Family attempted to get back into the game, hitting a three just over five minutes into the frame to make it a four-point Lion lead, 46-42.
• The Lions held strong though and slowly increased their lead. Over a near six-minute span, the Lions extended their lead with an 18-9 run, helped out by back-to-back baskets from
Amari Jones. The 64-51 lead was the Lions largest of the night.
• Holy Family responded scoring seven straight to bring it down to just a six-point game with 6:36 left to play.
• That's when Edmonds took over. He willed his way to the free throw line and scored seven points in the final 6:14, five coming from the line, to hold off any Tiger rally and lead the Lions to a 75-66 win.
