Volleyball Tripped Up on the Road at Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Oct. 15, 2025) - Georgian Court Volleyball was on the road again Wednesday night for a CACC South clash with Jefferson. The Rams won a close first set and carried that momentum throughout the match for a 3-1 win.

How it Happened
• The Rams hit a tick under .200 for the night at .196. Georgian Court hit .109 with 38 kills and 24 errors.
• Service errors were a problem for both teams. The Lions hit nine and the Rams 14. Jefferson also landed nine aces to just one for GCU.
• Blocking numbers were fairly even. GCU put back nine and Jefferson hit eight.
• Jefferson held a slight lead in digs, 57-54.
Set 1
• Georgian Court scored the first four points in the set, but it's not about how you start, it's how you finish.
• Jefferson chipped away at the Lions lead until taking their first at 12-13.
• The Rams used a 6-0 run to get ahead and stayed that way until a service error and attack error allowed the Lions to tie the set at 24.
• GCU couldn't take advantage of the Rams mistakes though and Jefferson landed a pair of kills to take set one, 26-24.
Set 2
• Once again the Lions started out hot, scoring three of the first four points.
• This time they kept it going, despite the Rams rallying in the middle of the set.
• Trailing 9-8, Georgian Court used a 5-3 run to claim the lead back that they never gave up.
• GCU extended the lead to 19-16 following a block from Addison Wellington and Emma Gildea before an Emily Hauptvogel kill ended the set, 25-21. 
Set 3
• The Lions got down early in the third set and couldn't recover. Jefferson scored the first four points and led from end to end.
• Leading 5-3, Jefferson went on a 6-1 run to pull in front 11-4.
• Georgian Court cut the lead down from 16-8 to 16-12 scoring four straight, but the Rams answered with a 5-1 run.
• Jefferson was able to cruise the rest of the way to a 25-17 win in set three for a 2-1 lead in the match.
• Georgian Court's first service ace of the match came from Ava Churnesky midway through the third set.
Set 4
• Jefferson scored six of the first seven points in set three and rolled to a set four win.
• They extended their lead to 10-3 and 17-8, both times forcing Lion timeouts.
• GCU was never able to get close after the Rams made it a 10-point lead and Jefferson went on to win 25-13. 

Lion Stat Leaders
• Ava Churnesky led GCU with 11 kills and a 13 digs for a double-double.
• Brooke Bowbliss totaled seven kills, 10 assists, eight digs and four blocks.
• Emily Hauptvogel hit seven kills with six digs.
• Iciar Zayas passed out 20 assists with seven digs.
• Carmen Rivera had a team-best 16 digs.

For the Rams
• Emily McKenna finished with a game-high 19 kills and was a dig-shy of a double-double.
• Alexa Pomeroy was also in double-figure kills with 12.
• Meredith Adams dished out 43 assists with 16 digs.
• Kate Hines picked up 16 digs.

News and Notes
• Carmen Rivera moved up to sixth all-time at GCU in career digs in the NCAA-era. 
• Ava Churnesky surpassed 100 career digs.
• The Lions one service ace matches their lowest in a game this season.
• Georgian Court's three-game winning streak over Jefferson is halted. The Lions lead in the all-time series is now down to 23-22.

• Georgian Court returns home this weekend. They play host to Caldwell Saturday, Oct. 18 at 12 pm.
