LAKEWOOD, NJ (Nov. 1, 2025) - Georgian Court Volleyball needed a little time to get going in their match Saturday afternoon against Felician, but once they did, they never slowed down. GCU fell in set one, but then took the next three for a 3-1 win to improve to 5-7 in CACC play with just three games left.
How it Happened
• The Lions hit .120 for the match and Felician was one attack error away from hitting .000. As it turned out they hit .008 with 35 kills and 34 attack errors.
• Both teams hit eight service aces. The Golden Falcons hit one more service error, 11-10.
• The Golden Falcons picked up nine points on the block while GCU put back seven.
• The biggest difference came in offensive errors. The Golden Falcons totaled 34 attack errors, 12 more than the Lions 22.
Set 1
• The first set was a set of extended runs. Georgian Court had the first, but not the last.
• GCU started the game up 6-2 before Felician responded with four straight to tie.
• Still tied at seven, Felician scored three straight to take a 10-7 lead.
• The Lions had their chance to rally and scored five straight, going back in front, 12-10.
• Georgian Court still held a one-point lead, 13-12, when Felician took the lead for good. They scored seven straight, with three service aces in that run for an 18-13 lead.
• The Lions weren't able to recover from that deficit and Felician finished the frame scoring five straight for a 25-15 set one win.
• Felician hit seven aces in the set while GCU hit -.182 with five kills and nine attack errors.
Set 2
• Georgian Court shook those cobwebs off from set one and led end-to-end in set two.
• They started the set scoring six of the first seven and pushed the lead to 10-3 on a block from 
Emily Hauptvogel and 
Genesis Simanca.
• Felician cut the lead down to as little as three on a number of occasions, but couldn't get any closer.
• A 4-1 Lions run turned a three-point lead into a six-point lead and GCU was able to cruise from there. 
• 
Brooke Bowbliss and 
Ava Churnesky ended the set with kills to tie the match at one.
• Set two saw Felician hit in the negatives with eight kills and 12 attack errors. 
Set 3
• Set three started out all Golden Falcons, but ended all Lions.
• Felician started the frame doubling up GCU 10-5.
• Georgian Court called timeout and came out of the break a different team.
• They went on a 12-1 run and suddenly found themselves up six, 17-11. 
Iciar Zayas held serve for nine of those points with two service aces. 
• The Lions rolled to a 25-14 win in set three. They again held Felician to a negative hitting percentage with 10 kills and 11 attack errors. 
• GCU hit .308 but took on 13 swings. They had just five kills along with five aces. 
Set 4
• Just like in set two, the Lions led wire to wire in the fourth.
• 
Ava Churnesky started it with a kill and GCU never looked back.
• They quickly got the lead out to five, 8-3, with 
Addison Wellington knocking a pair of kills.
• Felician brought the lead down to three a couple of times, but Georgian Court extended it to seven with a 4-0 run.
• The teams traded points the rest of the way and the Lions never was never in doubt as they finished off the match 25-20.
• After hitting just five kills in set three, the Lions hit 14 in set four, five each from 
Addison Wellington and 
Genesis Simanca.
Lion Stat Leaders
• 
Genesis Simanca hit .217 with a team-best 10 kills.
• 
Addison Wellington hit .318 and put down nine kills.
• 
Iciar Zayas passed out 17 assists.
• 
Carmen Rivera had a team-high 18 digs with three service aces.
• 
Kyla Davis hit three kills and six blocks.
For the Golden Falcons
• Sandra Galas finished with game-high 14 kills and added seven digs.
• Sophia Watterson dished 18 assists and hit three aces.
• Faith Sibert put back five blocks with three kills.
News and Notes
• Make it 28 straight. Georgian Court remains unbeaten against Felician all-time improving their record to 28-0.
• 
Genesis Simanca hit her 200th kills.
• The Lions 34 kills are their fewest in a win this season. It's their lowest since they also had 34 last year, also against Felician, however in three sets. 
• The last time GCU won a match with fewer than 34 kills came in the 2019 season. They did it twice that season, defeating Concordia (NY) and Queens in back-to-back matches with 28 and 32 kills in three sets.
