WILMINGTON, Del. (Nov. 7, 2025) - Georgian Court Volleyball and Goldey-Beacom went back-and-forth all night in a spirited affair. GCU put forth a strong effort, but ultimately came up short in four sets, 22-25, 27-29, 25-23, 20-25.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court arguably had the better offensive night. They hit .168 compared to the Lightning's .150 and scored 71 points, one more than GBC.
• Defensively, the Lions doubled up the Lightning in blocks, 12-6.
• The service line is what hurt Georgian Court. They were a -7 on points from the serve, landing seven aces with 10 errors while the Lightning hit 12 aces with five errors.Â
Set 1
• Georgian Court started the match scoring three straight kills.Â
• They held that lead until a 5-0 Lightning strike put Goldey on top, 9-8.
• GBC pushed their lead to as much as four, but the Lions hung tight.
• Three times the Lions cut the lead down to one, but never were able to tie and Goldey-Beacom put them away scoring the final two points for a 25-22 set one win.
Set 2
• It looked like Goldey-Beacom might run away with set two, leading 6-2 and then 19-13.
• That's when GCU roared back scoring nine straight. They tied and took the lead on consecutive
Maggy Hallihan aces and suddenly were up three, 22-19.
• Holding set point, Goldey responded scoring three straight, helped out by two GCU errors.
• The set was tied at 24, 25, 26 and 27 before a GBC kill and block ended it, 29-27 for Goldey-Beacom.Â
Set 3
• After that crushing loss in set two, GCU needed to wipe the slate clean and start anew.
• It didn't start out that way with GBC taking a 13-9 lead and forcing a Lion timeout.
• Georgian Court rallied though and an 8-2 run saw GCU take control, 17-15.
• Goldey-Beacom countered with a run of their own and were back out in front, 23-20 closing in on a sweep.

Ava Churnesky ended the Lightning run with a kill and that was the start of a 5-0 finish for GCU. They scored the final five points with two aces coming from Churnesky to stay alive with a 25-23 win.
Set 4
• The fourth set started out with the team trading points until Goldey-Beacom got the first run.
• Leading 8-7, the Lightning scored five straight to take their largest lead, 13-7.
• Georgian Court brought the lead down to one, 16-15, but that is as close as they came to tying.
• At 22-20, GBC scored the final three points with two kills and a service ace and finished off the match, 25-20.
Lion Stat Leaders

Genesis Simanca led GCU with 14 kills and added three blocks and seven digs.
•
Addison Wellington was also in double-figures with 10 kills.
•
Ava Churnesky picked up eight kills with 12 digs.
•
Iciar Zayas had a double-double with 27 assists and a team-best 15 digs.
•
Maggy Hallihan dished out 12 assists and added eight digs a team-best three service aces.
For the Lightning
• Gabi Fullwood landed a game-high 16 kills and hit .308.
• Kelci Gingras chipped in 10 kills and eight digs.
• Gaby Fernandez led the defense with 33 digs.
• Juliana Malena passed out 48 assists.
