Lions Come Up Short at Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2025) - Georgian Court Volleyball ran into a red hot Holy Family team at the wrong time Wednesday evening and ended up on the wrong side of a 3-0 sweep. The Tigers came out firing early and GCU had no answer for the Tiger offense as HFU won 25-11, 25-18, 25-14.

How it Happened
• Holy Family had it all working hitting .411 in the match with 49 kills to 10 errors.
• Georgian Court hit just .061 with 25 kills and 19 attack errors.
• GCU limited the Tigers, a strong service team to just five aces and were helped out by five service errors.
• The Lions serves weren't leading to many points with one ace and two service errors in three sets.
• Holy Family was able to put back seven blocks to the Lions four and had a big advantage digging balls, 43-27.

Set 1
• Things didn't start out well for the Lions as the Tigers scored the first five points in set one, getting three kills and a block.
• Holy Family put things away early in set one, getting ahead 17-4.
• The teams went back-and-forth for a little bit near the end, but the Tigers put things away with three straight kills.

Set 2
• Looking to even the match up, the Lions scored four of the first six points in set two.
• Holy Family responded with three straight points which started a 13-3 run, culminating in seven straight points and a 17-7 lead.
• Suddenly the Tigers were up 24-13 and while GCU scored five straight points, it was too big a hole to climb out of and the Tigers went up 2-0 with a 25-18 win.

Set 3
• Once again Georgian Court jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hold it.
• This time, GCU led 5-3 before a 6-0 Tiger run saw them go out in front, 9-5.
• Holy Family led the rest of the way and never let Georgian Court back into the set.
• The finished the match scoring four of the final five points, getting two kills and a block.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Genesis Simanca led GCU hitting .350 with nine kills on 20 attempts.
• Ava Churnesky chipped in seven kills and four digs.
• Iciar Zayas led the Lions with 13 assists and eight digs.
• Kyla Davis added four kills and two blocks.

For the Tigers
• Shelby Kinzer finished with a game-high 12 kills and 16 digs.
• Mackenzie Layton hit .538 with eight kills.
• Mia Wise averaged 14 assists per set, passing out 42 with five digs, two aces and two blocks.
• Leah Logan hit .545 with eight kills on 11 attempts with five blocks.

News and Notes
• Holy Family improves to 26-24 all-time against the Lions.
• The Tigers .411 attack percentage is the best by a GCU opponent this season. It's the highest by a CACC opponent since Chestnut Hill hit .430 in 2022. 
• The Lions loss coupled with a win from Jefferson eliminates the Lions from CACC Postseason contention.

• Georgian Court finishes the season Saturday, Nov. 15 against Jefferson. First serve is scheduled for 11 am with Senior Day festivities taking place prior to the match.
