Lions Erase 16-Point Deficit, But Fall Short to Queens

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Dec. 20, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball nearly erased a 16-point second half deficit, cutting the Queens College lead down to just one. But the comeback bid fell just short in the end as the Lions couldn't quite get over the hump in a 74-71 loss to the Knights. Georgian Court falls to 5-7 overall in their final game before the holiday break.

How it Happened
• The final score better indicates how close the game was, rather than the game-high 16 point Knights lead.
• Both teams shot 38% from the floor. Queens though had an outstanding second-half shooting 53% and scoring 48, nearly twice what they scored in the first.
• Three-pointers weren't falling much for either team. The Lions finished just 3-19 from distance while Queens hit 6-21. They were 4-9 in the second half.
• Each team shot 70% from the foul line. The Lions were 14-20 and the Knights 16-23.
• Rebound numbers were even at 45. GCU had one more on the offensive glass, 12-11.
• Both teams turned the ball over 17 times. Queens capitalized for 25 points off turnovers and 26 fastbreak points. The Lions scored 16 off those 17 giveaways with 10 fastbreak points.

1st Half
• Georgian Court was 0-10 from three in the first half, but still led by three at the break, 29-26.
• Neither team had a two-possession lead until Jacob Santiago hit a pulled up jumper at the 13:48 mark for a 12-8 GCU advantage.
• Queens answered and took a three-point lead of their own with less than nine minutes to play, but Georgian Court responded with a lengthy run.
• Over the next five minutes, the Lions outscored the Knights 14-5, going 6-9 overall while the Knights cooled off and were just 1-9.
• An offensive rebound and putback from Anthony Rivera gave GCU their largest lead, 27-21.
• In the final minute, Queens knocked in a three-pointer and the Lions lead was three, 29-26 at the break.

2nd Half
• Queens hit the Lions hard to start the second half.
• The first six minutes saw the Knights go on a 20-2 run and were up 15, 46-31 in the blink of an eye.
• The Knights were 8-14 and 2-4 from three. Georgian Court was just 1-11 and turned the ball over three times.
• Queens hit another three and with less than 10 minutes to play had their largest lead, 56-40.
• The lead hung around there for a bit and after a tip-in basket, the Knights still were up 15 with 5:49 left.
• Georgian Court started their comeback on the next possession with a three from Anthony Gooden. Anthony Rivera hit a layup in transition and Queens called a timeout with a 10-point lead.
• Good came up with a steal on the inbounds and a basket to make it an eight point game and Cam Edmonds did the same, with Gooden finishing cutting the lead to six, 64-58 as Queens called another timeout with 4:50 left.
• The Lions scored nine points in 58 seconds with Gooden accounting for seven.
• Queens did all they could to keep their composure. They brought the lead back out to eight with 3:24 left.
• Trailing by six with 1:41 left, the Lions got one free throw each from Edmonds and Amar Lane. Then following a Queens backcourt violation turnover, Edmonds banked a three off the glass and it was a one-point game, 70-69 with 55 seconds left.
• Queens pushed it back out to three with an offensive rebound and put back from Henri Mennander. GCU missed a game-tying three and Queens went back up five as Johnny Jones was 2-2 at the line.
• Edmonds hit a quick two to bring it back to a one-possession game. The Lions came up empty on a steal on the inbounds pass and had to foul. The Knights missed the front end of the one-and-one and the Lions came up with the rebound, but only had time for a half-court heave which hit off the backboard and fell to floor, ending the game, 74-71 Knights.
