GCU Sufferes Loss at Nearby Division I Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ. (Dec.29, 2025) - The Lions stayed in their home state of New Jersey and faced Division I Monmouth, falling 40-74. 

1st Quarter
•It was a slow start for both teams in West Long Branch on Monday night, as neither scored in the first three minutes of the game.
Alexis Davis scored the first four points of the game for the Hawks.
Imani Gillette then matched that with four points for the Lions. 
• Layups from multiple Hawks players helped extend the lead to 10 by the end of the first quarter.

2nd Quarter
Niyell McCargo took over in the second quarter for the Lions. Eight of the ten Lions Points were from McCargo. 
Gigi Gamble needed to be stopped for the Hawks. She had 14 points in the second quarter. 
• The Lions shot 23% from the floor compared to the Hawks 47%. 

Third Quarter
• The Lions shot better in the third quarter, connecting on 41.7% of their attempts from the floor.
• That effort resulted in 14 points in the third quarter.
• The Hawks shot only slightly better than GCU, shooting 42.9%, but scoring 19 points.
• Going into the 4th, the Lions trailed 29-54. 

Fourth Quarter
•Another dominant quarter from Monmouth to close out the game. 
• The Lions struggled offensively in the final quarter, shooting 26.7%. 
• They fell to Monmouth 40-74. 

Lion Stat Leaders
Imani Gillette led the team with 14 points. 
Niyell McCargo had nine points.
Marija Markovic had seven points in seven minutes. 

For the Hawks
Gigi Gamble had 27 points.
Alexis Davis had 17 points and 13 rebounds. 
Divine Dibula had 16 points and nine rebounds.
