LAKEWOOD, NJ (Feb. 15, 2025) - In their final home game of the regular season, Georgian Court Men's Basketball let a late lead slip away to Goldey-Beacom. The Lightning came back from down as much as 13 to defeat Georgian Court 76-71.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court was the better shooting team hitting 46.3% including 55.6% in the second half. Goldey-Beacom finished the day shooting 43% overall.
• Each team hit nine three-pointers. The Lions were 9-20 and GBC 9-28.
• The Lions committed seven more fouls than the Lightning and that gave GBC twice as many free throw opportunities as the Lions. Goldey-Beacom was 23-32 at the line and GCU 12-16.
• Georgian Court came down with more rebounds, 35-30, and one more offensive board, 11-10.
• GCU turned the ball over 22 times while the Lightning gave it away just 17.
1st Half
• It was a plodding and low-scoring start to the game.
• Nearly nine minutes in, the game was tied at 12.

Jahsan Johnson gave the Lions a 12-7 lead, but was called for a technical foul for taunting and that started a 9-0 run for the Lightning.
• Goldey-Beacom went up by four following the stretch, but layups from
Justin Soranno and
Cam Edmonds tied the game at 16.Â
• Another Johnson three-ball gave GCU a 19-18 lead with 5:20 left in the half and the Lions led the rest of the opening frame.
• That three kicked off a 13-4 run for the Lions who took their largest lead of the half, 31-22 with 1:08 left.
• Goldey-Beacom scored five points in the final 42 seconds though and cut the GCU lead down to 31-27 at the break.
2nd Half

Donavin Crawford made some big threes to start the second half and extend the Lions lead.
• Crawford then went 3-3 at the line and gave GCU their biggest lead of the game, 49-36 with 15:22 to play.
• GBC answered with a three before cutting the lead to single-digits.
• Trailing by nine, the Lightning scored seven straight to get to within two.

Taheen Braswell-Brown stopped the bleeding with a layup, putting GCU back up four, 57-53, with 8:31 left.
• But the Lightning kept hitting shots and eventually re-took the lead for the first time in the second half.
• GBC went on another 7-0 run, pushing their lead to six, 65-59, with 4:59 left.

Anthony Gooden made it a one-possession game with a three of his own, but a foul sent GBC to the line where they went 1-2.
• Georgian Court crept closer making it a two-point game with seven seconds left.
• The Lightning kept the door open as the Lions fouled and Anthony Akande made just 1-2, bringing the lead to three, 74-71.
• On the Lions final possession, Edmonds launched a three-quarter-court three thinking he was fouled and missed everything, giving the Lightning the ball back.
• They finished off the game with a pair of free throws for the 76-71 win.

Cam Edmonds scored a game-high 17 with seven rebounds, five assists and six steals.

Justin Soranno secured a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
•
Donavin Crawford scored 12 with three triples.
•
Anthony Gooden was in double-figures adding 10 on 4-6 shooting.

• Shane Taylor came off the bench to scored a team-high 14 points.
• Zayon Marsh scored 10 with seven rebounds and three steals.
• Zakari McQueen added 13 and Tre Powell 12.

Amari Jones was honored before the game for senior day and played in his 50th career game.

Cam Edmonds surpassed 900 career points. He also moved into second place for points in a single-season.

Donavin Crawford played his 1500th career minute.
• Goldey-Beacom came up with 10 blocks, the most for an opponent this season and the second time in three games GCU has been blocked 10 times.Â
