Edmonds Drops 40, Comes Up With Game-Winning Block at Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Feb. 19, 2025) - It was a wild night in Philadelphia, especially the final 20 minutes. Georgian Court trailed Holy Family at the half, but came back in resounding fashion. The second half saw 11 lead changes with Anthony Gooden getting the final one in the closing seconds of a 72-71 win.

How it Happened
• Three-pointers and free throw shooting helped push the Lions across the finish line. They were 10-25 from three, hitting twice as many as the Tigers. HFU also struggled at the line going 18-28 while the Lions were 20-27.
• Overall, Holy Family shot 48% from the floor and the Lions 42%.
• Each team grabbed 32 rebounds and scored seven second-chance points.
• Holy Family lost the ball 16 times while the Lions turned it over 14 and each team scored 15 points off turnovers.
1st Half
• Holy Family led for the entirety of the first half.
• They scored the first five points before Cam Edmonds got the Lions on the board with a three.
• With the Tigers up six, 15-9, Edmonds buried another triple to pull GCU within three at the 13:36 mark of the half.
• Edmonds scored the Lions first 12 points in the game. Donavin Crawford's basket at the 10:13 mark were the first non Edmonds GCU points of the game.
• Midway through the half, HFU used a 9-0 run to build to their largest lead, 29-16.
• That coincided with a GCU cold spell that lasted 3:05.
• It was Edmonds who broke that up with consecutive threes to get the Lions back in the game.
• Georgian Court kept the lead in the single-digits most of the rest of the way.
• HFU got back up 10, 39-29 at the foul line, but Jahsan Johnson answered with two at the stripe and Edmonds beat the buzzer with a layup as GCU trailed by six, 39-33 at the half.
• Edmonds was 8-11 from the floor, 4-6 from three and 7-7 at the line for 27 points in the half.
2nd Half
• Holy Family started the half off cold allowing the Lions to inch closer.
• Edmonds and Anthony Gooden each hit three pointers and four minutes into the half, the Tiger lead was down to two, 41-39.
• The poor shooting continued from both sides. Georgian Court started the half 2-9 while Holy Family was 1-7 from the floor.
• Another Edmonds three, his fifth of the game, tied the score at 43. Holy Family came right back to answer with a three-ball of their own and took the lead, 46-43, with 13 minutes left to play.
• Four straight points from Caleb Mims gave Georgian Court their first lead of the game, 47-46. It didn't last long though as the Tigers were there to answer with a layup to go back out in front.
• An Edmonds floater made it a 49-48 GCU lead, but the Tigers answered scoring six straight to go up four, 54-50, with 8:48 left.
• The teams continued to go back-and-forth. Caleb Mims gave GCU a 57-56 lead with two at the line before HFU hit a three.
• Edmonds responded on the next possession with another three of his own, but the Tigers hit a jumper and the lead changed on four consecutive possessions, ending with HFU up 61-60 and calling a timeout with 5:49 left.
• After each team made baskets, HFU was still up one, 64-63, with 3:45 left to play.
• The Tigers extended their lead to three, 70-67, with two at the foul line. After GCU missed, Holy Family had a chance to make it a two-possession game but came up empty on a Vernon Johnson three-point attempt.
• Following a timeout, Crawford hit a jumper with 33 seconds left to get back to within one.
• Needing to foul, Ryan Holmes went just 1-2 at the line and GCU had a chance to tie or take the lead.
Anthony Gooden went for the lead and did not miss. His third three-pointer of the game put the Lions up 72-71 with 11 seconds to play.
• After a HFU timeout, GCU needed a defensive stand and it came from who else but Cam Edmonds. He blocked Holmes' turnaround attempt and GCU escaped with a one-point win.
