Men's Basketball Scores Season High in Win Over Wilmington

LAKEWOOD, NJ. (Feb. 5, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball had a very strong outing against the Wilmington Wildcats as their energy and effort pushed them across the finish line in an intense duel. The Lions led after the first half and continued their dominance, finishing with an 86-78 win. 
 
How it Happened 
• Georgian Court was right at 50% shooting hitting 30-60. They were 6-17 from three and 20-29 at the foul line.
• Wilmington struggled from the floor, especially from three. They shot 36.5% overall and were 3-21 from behind the arc while hitting 29-35 at the line.
• The Wildcats grabbed a 41-36 edge in rebounding, including 14 offensive rebounds.
• Georgian Court turned the ball over just 12 times, but Wilmington was able to score 22 points off those turnovers. The Lions scored 18 from 15 Wilmington giveaways.
• There were a lot of altered shots with Wilmington blocking 10 and Georgian Court seven. 
1st Half 
• The Lions started the game strong with the first basket coming from Justin Soranno.   
• The Lions and Wildcats continued to trade baskets until momentum shifted in Wilmington's direction. An and-one opportunity from Tre Hawkins put the Wildcats up to an early 11-4 lead. 
• A pair of three pointers by Cam Edmonds helped the Lions cut into the deficit. 
• Wilmington however continued to increase their lead with a three-pointer by Denim Perkins  
• Not long after, Cam Edmonds struck again and buried a four-point play in the left corner to tie the game at 17 apiece.  
• Georgian Court's strong defensive play and ability to make multiple stops allowed them to take the lead on multiple baskets by Jahsan Johnson, including one crafty reverse layup.  
• The half continued at a highly intense pace and resulted in the two teams trading baskets back and forth.  
• A missed shot was then quickly turned into an easy layup by Donavin Crawford to give the Lions a 36-27 lead with 5:38 remaining.  
• Edmonds had a team-high 11 first half points to give the Lions a 43-37 halftime lead. This would put Edmonds 13 points from seventh all-time on the GCU scoring chart. With two more free throws in the second period, it would also put Edmonds fourth most all-time in program history.  
2nd Half 
• Edmonds started the scoring for the Lions and opened the half with a three-point play off a driving layup.  
• The Lions took a strong 54-43 lead, however the Wildcats did not go away. Izaiah Credle struck back with a three pointer to get Wildcats started.  
• Crawford then immediately responded with a three pointer of his own, putting him in the Lions' all-time top-10.  
• With under 10 minutes to go, Wilmington was down by double digits with Georgian Court up 61-51.  
• Gaining more momentum, a steal by Jahsan Johnson led to a Charles Anyichie dunk extending Georgian Court's lead to 13.  
• The Wildcats were not going away easy and a steal by Denim Perkins would eventually led to an Izaiah Credle layup, cutting GCU's lead 81-74.  
• Wilmington was able to generate some late turnovers and make it a close game, but time ran out with the Lions on top, 86-78.
 
Lion Stat Leaders 
Cam Edmonds scored 28 going 7-16 overall and 12-15 at the foul line. He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
Donavin Crawford was 7-14 from the floor and scored 17 with three steals.
Justin Soranno finished 5-8 for 12 points with three blocks and six boards.
Anthony Gooden chipped in nine points and Jahsan Johnson three.

For the Wildcats  
• Tre Hawkins scored a game-high 30 with 13 rebounds for a double-double.
• izaiah Credle came off the bench to score 16 with eight rebounds.
• Denim Perkins was 2-6 from three for 12 points with five assists. 
 
News and Notes 
Cam Edmonds moved up to seventh on the Lions all-time scoring list. 
Donavin Crawford entered the GCU all-time top-10 for made three-pointers.
• Georgian Court's 86 points are their most in a game this season.
• The Lions also blocked a season-high seven shots and Charles Anyichie's four are the most by a Lion this year. It's also the most by a Lion since he blocked four last year against Charleston. There's only been six games in Georgian Court history where a Lion players has blocked more than five shots.
 
Up Next 
• Georgian Court's next game will be an away match against the Bloomfield College Bears. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 pm Saturday, February 8.
