Lions Drop Doubleheader at Post

WATERBURY, Conn. (March 16, 2025) - Georgian Court Baseball wrapped up their first ever CACC weekend with two games at Post. The Lions took on the defending CACC Tournament Champions and fell in each end of the twin bill, 5-1 and 15-7. 

Game 1 - Post 5, Georgian Court 1
How it Happened

• Post scored five runs on nine hits, one of those being a home runs.
• The Lions collected just five singles, scoring once.
• Georgian Court made three errors in the field which led to a pair of unearned runs. Post played a clean game defensively.
• Speaking of fielding, the Lions hit into three double plays. They also turned one in the field. 
• Lots of balls were put in play. GCU struck out three while Post fanned four. Lion pitchers walked three. The Eagles didn't issue any free passes.
• The Lions struck in the top of the first as Carter Rieben scored on Sammy Cruz's RBI groundout.
• Post answered right away getting back-to-back singles to lead off the home half of the inning. A sacrifice fly tied the game but Ryan Bilello did a nice job of limiting the damage.
• Post got another leadoff man on in the third and took the lead on another productive out, this time an RBI ground out for a 2-1 lead.
• Jaylen Kelley had the first RBI hit of the game putting Post up 3-1. He homered to lead off the fourth.
• The Eagles tacked on in the seventh with a pair of RBI singles, pushing the lead to 5-1.
• Georgian Court's offense didn't threaten much. They got a runner on in the ninth, but hit into their third double play to end the game. 

Lion Stat Leaders
Israel Garcia had two singles in three at bats.
Sammy Cruz knocked in a run with a ground out.
Frank Marra finished 2-4.
Carter Rieben scored after being hit by a pitch and stealing a base.
Ryan Bilello started and went the first five innings allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits.

For the Eagles
• Joe Christiana threw six innings allowing just a run on three hits with four strikeouts.
• Logan Pulitano fired three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
• Damareus Rodriguez picked up a pair of singles.
• Jaylen Kelley homered.
• Jesse Alfalla walked and singled and scored twice.

Game 2 - Post 15, Georgian Court 7
How it Happened

• Post's offense exploded for 15 runs on 12 hits.
• Georgian Court scored seven on 10 hits.
• Each team made three errors in the field and allowed three unearned runs. 
• Once again, Georgian Court grabbed an early 1-0 lead. Alex Elliotts double to right center drove in Frank Marra who was hit by a pitch.
• The lead didn't last though. Post put up an eight spot in the home half of the first. The Eagles picked up four RBI hits in the inning going up 8-1.
• Post continued to offensive onslaught with a three-run second inning. The first five batters all reached base. It could have been much worse, but Josiah Madera induced a ground ball double play and limited the damage to just three runs.
• Neither team scored in the next two innings and Post continued to lead 11-1.
• Georgian Court scored three in the top of the fifth. Oliver Santana started the inning with a triple before being driven in by Kody Lewis. The Lions scored two more on RBI ground balls and trailed 11-4.
• After holding Post scoreless for three innings, the Eagles put up four in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away. A pair of RBI doubles were the biggest hits as Post got to 15 runs.
• The Lions added three runs in the seventh, but a ground ball ended the game at 15-7.

Lion Stat Leaders
Jack Greenspan had a pair of singles.
Oliver Santana tripled and scored a run.
Alex Elliott singled, doubled and drove in two.
Matt DiOttavio, Frank Marra, Jaylen Burno and Kody Lewis each singled and scored a run. 
Kyle Kolans, Joe Voli and Tyler Dunmeyer each threw scoreless innings out of the bullpen. 

For the Eagles
• Isaiah Velazco went 2-3 with a double and four RBI.
• Damareus Rodriguez drove in two with two singles and scored a run.
• Hayden Roberge collected three hits in four at bats with three runs and two RBI.
• Maico Cardona doubled as a part of a two-hit day with two runs scored. 
• Zion Fraser threw the first six innings allowing four runs, two earned on seven hits with three strikeouts 

News and Notes
• The first three runs of game one were all scored on productive outs. 
• Georgian Court grounded into three double plays in each game. 
• In four games with Post, Georgian Court's seven in the final was their most of the weekend. 
• Georgian Court scored first-inning runs in each of the final three games.

Up Next
• Georgian Court will get back on the road this week for a CACC doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom Tuesday, March 18 beginning at 12 pm.
