Lions Trip to Delaware Ends In Lightning Sweep

WILMINGTON, Del. (March 18, 2025) - Georgian Court Baseball had to change things up on the fly. They were forced to move their games to Wilmington, DE Tuesday afternoon to take on 2024 NCAA Regional Qualifier, Goldey-Beacom. The Lightning took both ends of the doubleheader as GCU continues on in CACC play. 

Game 1 - Goldey-Beacom 14, Georgian Court 2
How it Happened

• Goldey-Beacom scored 14 runs on 10 hits while GCU picked up four hits and scored twice.
• The Lions made two errors in the field which led to three unearned runs. 
• Seven of the Lightning's 10 hits were for extra bases. They also walked seven times. 
• For the fourth straight game, GCU scored in the first inning. This time it was Alex Elliott lifting a two-out solo home run to left for a 1-0 lead.
• Goldey-Beacom scored in each of the first four innings.
• They answered in the home half of the first with a home run of their own. A leadoff shot off the bat of C. Petrillo to tie the game at one.
• GBC added a run in the second with a two-out rally. After Joe Voli retired the first two Lightning hitters, an error, wild pitch and a double allowed an unearned run to score.
• Georgian Court scored another run in the second. Frank Marra singled home Larry Rodriguez who was hit by a pitch and stole second.
• Another home run in the third, this time a two-run shot, put the Lightning ahead 4-2. 
• A walk and a hit by pitch put the first two on for the Lightning with no outs in the fourth. A single drove in one run and a two-out double from B. Williams cleared the bases.
• After GCU held the Lightning scoreless in the fifth, GBC added on in the sixth. Williams doubled to drive in a run and Petrillo followed with a triple to score two.
• Two more run-scoring hits gave the Lightning a seven-run sixth and a 14-2 lead. 
• Georgian Court loaded the bases in the seventh but Israel Garcia's line drive was caught by the shortstop, and the game was finished after seven innings, 14-2.

Lion Stat Leaders
Alex Elliott was 2-3 with a home run.
Frank Marra drove in a run with a single.
Larry Rodriguez was hit by two pitches, walked, stole a base and scored. 
Carter Rieben doubled and stole a base. 

For the Lightning
• Christian Petrillo homered, tripled and drove in three runs.
• Dante DiSabatino reached base three times and scored three runs.
• Brent Williams doubled twice and drove in three.
• George Starr threw the first six innings allowing two runs on three hits.
• Anthony Charles walked, homered, and scored twice. 

Game 2 - Goldey-Beacom 9, Georgian Court 2
How it Happened

• Goldey-Beacom again collected 10 hits, this time eight singles. The Lions collected seven hits in game two.
• The Lightning were moving all over the basepaths with seven stolen bases. 
• Georgian Court hitters struck out eight times in seven innings. Lion pitchers walked four and struck out four. 
• After a scoreless first, Goldey-Beacom scored two in the second getting an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
• The Lions got two in scoring position with one out in the third, but a strikeout and ground out ended the inning.
• GBC sent 10 to the plate in the second inning, scoring seven runs. They picked up three run-scoring hits plus scored on a balk and a sacrifice fly. 
• Georgian Court got a run back in the fourth on Joshua Moreno's RBI ground ball that scored Israel Garcia who walked to lead off the inning.
• Moreno then singled home Israel Garcia to conclude the scoring.
• GCU pitching threw three scoreless innings after the Lightning's big third inning.

Lion Stat Leaders
Jack Greenspan singled all three times to the plate.
Israel Garcia singled, walked and scored two runs.
Joshua Moreno drove in both Lion runs.
Carter Rieben and Oliver Santana each had a hit.
Kyle Kolans, Ely Houston and Andrew Sloan all threw scoreless innings in relief.

For the Lightning
• Kory Williams got the win throwing six innings allowing two runs on eight strikeouts.
• Bobby Stewart was 3-3 with a triple and three RBI.
• Jaden Dickerson singled twice and scored two runs.

News and Notes
• Georgian Court started conference play with two opponents who made the NCAA regional tournament in 2024.
• The Lions streak of first-inning runs stopped at four.
• Game two was a scheduled seven-inning game. Game one was stopped because of the run-rule calling for an early end when one team is up by at least 10 runs after seven innings. 

Up Next
• Georgian Court is off until the weekend. They'll play four games, two home, two on the road against Bloomfield starting Saturday, March 22 and finishing up Monday, March 23.
