Three Women's Basketball Student-Athletes Make the CSC Academic All-District Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 26, 2025) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball had three make the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as announced today. 

Tyra Lovelock, Niyell McCargo and Karissa Smedley each represent the Lions on this season's list. The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The CSC requires both academic and athlete standards to maintain to be eligible for the Academic All-District Team. Student-athletes must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.50 and be of sophomore or high academic standing. On the court, they must have played in at least 90% of regular season competition or started 66% of all games.

Lovelock is in her first season at GCU and has a 3.74 GPA while studying Education. She started every game for GCU averaging a team-high 30.5 minutes per game. Running the point for most of the season, Lovelock led GCU with 58 assists while also scoring 4.0 points per game. She was second on the team in made three-pointers.

McCargo is a sophomore majoring in Psychology and has a 3.96 GPA. She played in 27 games last season scoring 9.1 points and shooting 39.1% overall. She also grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game with 40 assists and 23 steals. In 12 games during the season, McCargo eclipsed 10 points and scored 20 in two games. 

Smedley is also a sophomore. She carries a cumulative 3.96 GPA in Education. Smedley played in 26 games and averaged 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. She shot 38.1% overall, 31.6% from three and hit 75.5% of her free throws. Smedley also dished out 29 assists and came up with 32 steals. Nine times she was in double-figure scoring.
