Baseball Drops First Two to Dominican

POMONA, NY (March 29, 2025) - Georgian Court Baseball started their home-and-home doubleheader series with Dominican Saturday. The Lions fell in both ends as the Chargers pulled away in the middle innings to earn the wins.

Game 1 - Dominican 10, Georgian Court 1
How it Happened

• The Lions managed just two hits and scored one run. Both hits were singles.
• Dominican scored 10 runs on 12 hits.
• The Chargers overcame three fielding errors.
• Dominican stole five bases and the Lions one.
• Georgian Court held a brief 1-0 lead. A wild pitch plated Carter Rieben who led off the game with a walk.
• The Lions held that lead until the third. Dominican scored twice in the inning to grab the lead tanks to a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring error.
• The Chargers tacked on in the fifth getting an RBI single before putting five on the board in the sixth.
• A two-run single was the only run scoring hit of the inning.
• The Chargers got another RBI single in the seventh to finish off GCU 10-1. 

Lion Stat Leaders
• Joe Voli went the first 5.1 innings giving up seven runs, six earned on seven hits.
• Tyler Charzewski threw a scoreless eighth inning.
• Larry Rodriguez singled and stole a base.
• Carter Rieben walked and scored.
• Alex Elliott singled in three trips to the plate.

For the Chargers
• Luis Rivera threw eight innings allowing one unearned run on one hit with six strikeouts.
• Jaden Maia finished 3-4 with four RBI.
• Ryan Bongiorno reached base three times with a walk and two singles. He scored twice and drove in two runs.
• Erick Diaz had a pair of hits and scored twice.

Game 2 - Dominican 6, Georgian Court 2
How it Happened

• Georgian Court scored twice on six hits with a pair of doubles.
• Dominican picked up six hits as well and scored six runs.
• The Chargers scored four of their six runs on outs.
• GCU again got out in front. They scored in the third as Oliver Santana's fly ball brought in Josh Moreno.
• Dominican took the lead in the fourth with a five-run frame.
• The first three runs scored on outs and an error. A two-run single plated the final two runs.
• Georgian Court got a run back in the fifth on a ground ball of their own, but Dominican answered with their own run-scoring ground out to lead 6-2.
• GCU had the tying run on deck in the ninth, but a ground out ended the game. 

Lion Stat Leaders
• Brady Parks allowed five runs, one earned on two hits in 3.2 innings.
• Samir Lopez finished the game throwing 2-1 innings allowing a run on four hits with four strikeouts.
• Joshua Moreno doubled twice and picked up three hits and scored both runs.
• Colby McMahon and Larry Rodriguez each had a hit in three at bats.

For the Chargers
• Anthony Leak went the distance throwing all seven innings allowing two runs and striking out eight.
• Erick Diaz reached base three times with a single, triple and a walk. He scored twice.
• Byron Arias drove in two runs.
• David Knepper singled and had two RBI. 

News and Notes
• Only two of the seven runs in game two were scored on hits.
• The Lions two errors match the fewest in a doubleheader this season. 
• Josh Moreno had his first two double game.

• Georgian Court has two more games with the Chargers tomorrow afternoon. New start time 2 pm for game one in Jackson at the Jackson Justice Complex.
