STATEN ISLAND, NY (March 4, 2025) - It was a night forever etched in Georgian Court history. Lions Baseball secured their first ever win in program history with a 16-8 drubbing of the College of Staten Island. Georgian Court's offense was on fire scoring multiple runs in five innings and four straight from the fifth through the eighth.
How it Happened
• The Lions mashed 12 hits and drew 11 walks, while also getting hit four times.
• GCU was also a nightmare for the Dolphins on the base paths stealing six bags.
• CSI committed three errors leading to three unearned runs. GCU made two, but neither came in to score.Â
• After a scoreless first inning, CSI got a run in the bottom of the second with a two-out RBI single.
• That lead didn't last though as the Lions scored four in the top of the third.Â
• GCU managed to score four with just one hit in the inning. They scored twice on wild pitches, once on a fielding error and another on a sacrifice fly.
• The Dolphins grabbed the lead back in the fourth. They collected three RBI hits and were back up by one, 5-4.
• The Lions took the lead for good in the fifth. Another run-scoring wild pitch tied the game. An infield single by
Israel Garcia and an RBI double from
Joshua Moreno put GCU ahead.
• Moreno came through again an inning later with a two-out, two-RBI single to push the lead to 9-5.
• In the seventh, the Lions blew it open with another four-run inning.
Alex Elliott and Garcia each had two-RBI hits in the frame.
• For good measure, GCU put up three more in the eighth. Again, without a run scoring hit. They scored three on a pair of bases loaded walks and a sacrifice fly.
• The Dolphins threatened a bit in the home half of the eighth, giving GCU a taste of their own medicine with three runs scoring without the benefit of a hit.Â
• An run-scoring walk and a pair of wild pitches brought in three runs to get to the 16-8 final.
