Lions Hang Tough in Doubleheader at Felician

LYNDHURST, NJ (APRIL 18, 2025) - Georgian Court Baseball competed hard against Felician, but came up just short in a doubleheader sweep against Felician. GCU got down early, but showed fight in both games and ran out of innings falling 7-3 and 8-6. 

Game 1 - Felician 7, Georgian Court 3
How it Happened

• Felician knocked 10 hits with a double and a triple, scoring seven runs.
• Georgian Court scattered eight hits, seven singles.
• The Lion defense made three errors which allowed two unearned runs to score.
• Felician pitching struck out eight batters and walked three. The Lions struck out three and walked seven. 
Benjie Pabon held Felician hitless through the first 3.1 innings, but the Golden Falcons broke through in the fourth. A walk and consecutive singles brought in the first run of the game. 
• One batter later, a triple brought in two more Golden Falcons and a two-out single made it a 4-0 game after four. 
• Felician tacked on two in the fifth with just one single in the inning. Two walks, an error, a wild pitch and a passed ball helped Felician move up the basepaths and bring two more runners in to score. 
• GCU got their first run in as Alex Elliott drove in Tomas Tamargo who singled to lead off the inning.
• Felician got the run back in the home half of the sixth with a one-out double to take a 7-1 lead.
• Georgian Court's offense showed some life in the ninth with two runs on three hits, but it wasn't enough. Sammy Cruz and Larry Rodriguez picked up RBI's in the inning, but the score ended, 7-3.

Lion Stat Leaders
Benjie Pabon got the start and threw the first 5.1 innings allowing seven runs, five earned on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Ryan Basham threw 1.2 scoreless innings and Eduardo Eble-Lacouture didn't allow a run in his inning of work.
Alex Elliott singled three times in four at bats, scored a run and drove one in.
Sammy Cruz and Larry Rodriguez were both 1-4 with an RBI. 

For the Golden Falcons
• Matthew Scrivanic tripled and drove in three runs.
• Luis Delacruz was on base three times with two singles and a walk. He also scored a run.
• Chris Corchado picked up a pair of hits, scored a run and drove one in.
• Sadier Vicioso threw the first eight innings allowing a run on five hits with eight strikeouts. 

Game 2 - Felician 8, Georgian Court 6
How it Happened

• Felician scored eight runs on nine hits while the Lions scored six on seven hits.
• Both teams made two errors. GCU scored four unearned runs and the Golden Falcons scored three unearned.
• Georgian Court stranded six runners on base Felician left eight.
Carter Rieben started the game with a double down the left field line. He moved up on a ground ball and scored on Sammy Cruz's infield single.
• Unfortunately for GCU, that lead didn't last long as Felician scored seven times in the first. They took advantage of some Lion errors and got two run-scoring hits in the inning to go up 7-1 after one.
• Georgian Court threw two scoreless frames after the first and scored three times in the fourth.
• The Lions scored three unearned runs in the inning, two scoring on one play, to get back to within three, 7-4.
• An inning later, Joshua Moreno's one-out, two-RBI double made it a one-run game, 7-6. He was left stranded as the tying run on second though.
• The Golden Falcons picked up an insurance run in the home half of the inning, scoring on a ground ball.
• GCU got the tying run on base in the sixth, but a line drive double-play ended the threat.
• The Lions went down in order in the seventh as Felician hung on, 8-6.

Lion Stat Leaders
Joshua Moreno was 2-4 with a two-RBI double.
Sammy Cruz singled, doubled and scored twice.
Carter Rieben doubled and scored.
Samir Lopez through 1.2 scoreless innings.

For the Golden Falcons
• Bryan Rios got the win throwing four innings allowing four runs, one earned.
• Gavin Enright earned the save throwing 1.2 hitless innings with two strikeouts.
• Jaxson Wall was on base three times with two RBI and scored a run.
• Chris Corchado singled, doubled and scored a run.

News and Notes
• Georgian Court put the leadoff runner on in 10 of 16 innings.
• The Lions struggled against lefties, hitting just 5-26.

• Georgian Court plays Felician again tomorrow for a doubleheader. They'll be playing at ShoreTown Park, home of the Jersey Shore Blue Claws, Admission is free and game one starts at 1 pm.
