Last Minute Goal Downs Georgian Court at CSI

STATEN ISLAND, NY (Sept. 13, 2025) - An unfortunate bounce didn't break right for Georgian Court in their 2-1 loss at the College of Staten Island. All three goals were scored in the second half with GCU striking first. CSI answered and what looked like a sure draw wasn't to be as the Dolphins scored in the final minute to steal a 2-1 win and drop the Lions to 0-2-1 on the season.

How it Happened

• Georgian Court had some early pressure with two corner kicks and two shots, from Alessandro Cavallini and Gijs van Eif in the first six minutes, but neither were on target.

• The quiet first half, ended quickly in the second. There were two yellow cards in the first 2:07 and three in the first six minutes.
• Gkosdis made a pair of early saves before Georgian Court finally broke through.
Yanis Achouri found Jelte van Hesteren who scored in the 65th minute for a 1-0 lead.
• That lead didn't last though as the Dolphins hit the equalizer less than 10 minutes later.
• Georgian Court's offense was buzzing in the closing minutes. CSI goalkeeper Carlos Romero Astacio made saves on van Eif and Nabeel Khan with less than 90 seconds to play.
• After the save on Khan's attempt, CSI pushed the ball upfield with less than a minute remaining. They were able to center into the box and a blocked shot kicked back high towards the GCU goal, over Gkosdis' head and into the net with just 19 seconds left to play.
