Men's Soccer Has Chances, But Can't Hit Net in Loss to Jeffeson

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Sept. 23, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Soccer's offense was working well, especially in the first half, generating a number of quality chances, but could not find the back of the net and capitalize on the work they were doing. Jefferson took advantage and scored a late goal in each half to blank the Lions, 2-0.

How it Happened
• It wouldn't be a stretch to say Georgian Court outplayed the Rams, but the Rams won where it counted, putting two goals in net.
• GCU led 22-12 in shots and doubled up the Rams, 8-4 in shots on goal.
• The Lions also generated seven corner kicks to the Rams five.
• Whistles were fast and furious. There was a total of eight bookings, including two red cards. GCU was called for a yellow and a red. Jefferson was dinged for 15 common fouls to the Lions five.
• Georgian Court led in total possession 57%-43%.

1st Half
• Despite the Lions having more chances, it was the Rams who had the first. Freshman goalie Simon Mortensen made a kick save in the first minute of the game.
• From there it was mostly Lions. David Tuschmann had a couple of chances, one sailing high and another saved.
• A couple of shots from Gijs van Eif were saved.
• Mikey Mallon was alone at the top of the box, but his attempt went up over the crossbar.
• For nearly the final 20 minutes, the Rams didn't get a shot attempt off. When they did, they made it count. In the closing seconds, Jefferson was given a corner kick. The ball scrambled and hung for a minute on the goal line where Sean Stackhouse was there to tap it in with two seconds left in the half for a 1-0 lead.

2nd Half
• The second half started with a different kind of fireworks than the ending of the first half. In the 47th minute, a skirmish saw a yellow card on Jefferson followed by two straight red cards. The one to Georgian Court sent Mikey Mallon off for the remainder of the game, a big blow to the Lions offense.
• The final 42 minutes were played with nine field players apiece.
• Shortly after a lengthy discussion about the bookings, Henry Calix had a few looks at the net, but both were off the mark.
• Late in the game, Georgian Court rattled off five straight shots in a six minute span. Two were saved, the other three missed the net and Jefferson maintained a 1-0 lead.
• Following the Lions offensive burst, the Rams had a chance to make it 2-0. Mortensen came up big once again making a stop on a breakaway to keep the Lions down just a goal.
• Georgian Court emptied their bench to get more offense on the field. Jack Pollintine-Smith came in and provided a spark, slipping past the Ram defense, but the Lion through passes couldn't connect.
• The second half ended like the first. Jefferson had a breakaway this time and again scored with two seconds left on the clock to finish off GCU 2-0.
