LAKEWOOD, NJ (Jan. 10, 2026) - For the first time in program history, Georgian Court Men's Basketball defeats Dominican. The Lions got out to a 20-point lead in the second half, and although it got dicey at the end, GCU had enough to hold on for an 83-76 win over the Chargers. The win also snapped a six-game losing streak and improved the Lions to 3-4 in the CACC, 6-9 overall.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court had been struggling from behind the arc during their losing streak, but not today. They were 9-25, including going 8-16 in the first half. They finished the game shooting 47% overall from the floor while Dominican was just a tick over 40 at 40.4%.
• Both teams left a lot of points at the free throw line. GCU was just 12-23, while Dominican was 25-40.
• GCU took advantage of 19 Dominican turnovers. They turned those into 17 points. The Lions lost the ball just 12 times.
• Dominican held the edge on the glass, 46-36, and 15-10 on the offensive end. However it was the Lions who were up 12-10 in second-chance points.Â
• Lots of misdirected shots in the game with GCU blocking eight and the Chargers five.
1st Half
• It didn't start out well for the Lions as Dominican raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first 90 seconds and GCU must have been having flashbacks to last year, getting down 18-0 in the first five minutes.
• The Lions got on the board with an
Anthony Gooden three-pointer which sparked them and that spark sustained for the rest of the 38 minutes.
• Gooden's three was the start of a 26-11 Lions run that saw GCU go 10-15 overall and 4-7 from three.
• That gave the Lions a 26-19 lead with less than 12 minutes remaining in the half.
• DUNY brought the lead down to three, but the Lions were relentless. Another 8-1 run saw GCU take their first 10-point lead as
Cam Edmonds got in on the three-ball action, burying one to put the Lions up 34-24.
• The lead stayed at 10 for the rest of the half and GCU was up 50-40 at the break.
• The Lions shot 57.6% overall in the half and were 8-16 from three.
2nd Half
• Coming out to the start second, the Lions kept their foot on the gas.
Jaycen Santucci started it with a dunk and a layup. Edmonds then followed with a layup and three-pointer and GCU was up 19, 59-40, with 2:30 into the second half.
• The lead hovered around 16 for a while until the Lions went on another extended run.Â
• The Chargers brought the lead down to 15 when the Lions pushed it back to a game-high 23 points, 72-49 following a 9-2 spurt past the midway point in the second.
• Dominican began to rally and with 4:21 left, brought the 23-point lead back into single digits, 76-67.
• The most important play in the game came at the 3:29 mark. Trailing by eight, it looked like Dominican hit a layup and was going to the line for an and-one, but a charge was called, wiping out the basket and giving GCU the ball back up still up eight.
• Georgian Court wasn't able to put the game away just yet though. Dominican missed a three with 30 seconds left, but an offensive rebound and putback made it a five-point game with 24 seconds remaining.
• GCU left the door open with a turnover on the inbounds pass. Santucci dribbled off his knee and out of bounds. He made up for it six seconds later, intercepting a pass in the middle of the floor which sealed the game.
• Dominican never scored again and the Lions held on for an 83-76 win.
