Volleyball Gets Back in the Win Column with Victory at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2026) - Georgian Court Volleyball can leave Pennsylvania happy Monday night after picking up their first win in the month. Despite the losing streak, the Lions had been playing better and finally put it all together in a 3-1 win over Millersville, 25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22. 

How it Happened
• The Lions outhit the Marauders in three of four sets, hitting .161 for the match while Millersville was at .122.
• GCU had a big advantage on the service line where they didn't allow a single ace for the first time all season. The Lions landed 12 while Millersville also hit nine service errors.
• Georgian Court put back nine blocks, with five coming in set four. That was three more than the Marauders' six blocks.
• There were an inordinate amount of block errors with the Lions called for six and the Marauders eight.
Set 1
• Georgian Court took an early lead in set one and never trailed, taking a quick 1-0 match lead.
• The Lions withstood a 4-0 Marauders run that turned an 8-4 GCU lead into a set tied at eight.
• Now with a one-point lead, 12-11, the Lions scored three straight to get some separation, helped out by two Marauder attack errors.
• Late in the set, the Lions went on a 7-1 run getting four kills and a Flavia Pecora service ace to take a commanding 23-15 lead.
• GCU didn't actually score the rest of the way as the Marauders hit two more attack errors to hand the set to the Lions, 25-17.
Set 2
• Similar to set one, the Lions pulled away in the middle of the frame.
• Tied at seven, Georgian Court scored six of the next seven points, getting three kills from Ava Churnesky to take a 13-8 lead.
• Millersville though chipped away and came back to tie, 16-16.
• Georgian Court responded after the Marauders tied the set by scoring four straight, taking a 20-16 lead.
• The Marauders were able to cut the lead down to one, 22-21, but kills from Churnesky and Keira Mullen kept the Lions in front a Millersville service errors gave GCU a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3
• The Lions were gunning for a sweep in the tightest set of the match.
• Millersville broke a 12-12 tie by scoring three straight, only for the Lions to answer with three straight of their own.
• The teams went nine straight points without either scoring two straight. The scored was tied at each point from 15-19.
• Maggy Hallihan gave the Lions a 20-19 lead with a service ace and a Kyla Davis block made it 21-19.
• However the Marauders stayed alive scoring the final six points, with consecutive blocks to end a 25-21 Millersville win.
Set 4
• All of the Marauders momentum was lost almost immediately in set four. 
• Georgian Court stormed out of the gates scoring nine of the first 10 points.
• GCU hit only two kills during the run also getting three aces and two blocks.
• A Millersville service error pushed the lead to a set high 10 points, 13-3.
• Millersville slowly ate into the Lions lead, getting to within as little as two points.
• Georgian Court finished off the Marauders with a kill from Maggy Hallihan to hang on for the win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Ava Churnesky led all scorers with 17 kills and was a dig short of a double-double with three aces.
• Keira Mullen added 12 kills and was also a dig shy of a double-double.
• Carmen Rivera Colon picked up a game-high 27 digs with three service aces. 
• Flavia Pecora hit .500 with 10 kills to go along with four aces, three digs and two blocks. 
• Roshell Chevres Sanchez passed out 20 assists with Maggy Hallihan adding 19.

For the Marauders
• Alex Nava led the marauders with 11 kills and added 10 digs.
• Sidonia Cecco picked up 24 digs.
• Addison Reustle passed out 25 assists with nine digs.
• Hailey Lazur hit .421 with 10 kills and three blocks. 

News and Notes
• Kyla Davis recorded her 100th career block. 
• Ziahna Frazier's eight digs are a career high.
• Roshell Chevres recorded her 100th dig. 
• Ava Churnesky's 17 kills match a high this year that came in the season opener at Molloy. 
• Georgian Court didn't allow a single service ace. The last time they did that was in 2019 and it happened twice in the span of six days against Holy Family and Chestnut Hill. 
• Each GCU win this season came in four sets.
• Georgian Court's nine team blocks were their most in seven match when they also had nine at Queens. 
• The Lions snap an 11-game losing streak, tied for their third longest since 2002 in a single season.

• Georgian Court comes back home for two matches the rest of this week. It starts Wednesday with a CACC South Division battle against Chestnut Hill starting at 6 pm.
