WILMINGTON, De. (Feb. 11, 2026) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball hung with and had a lead for a time on second-place Goldey-Beacom Wednesday night. But the Lightning proved to be too much and held on for an 89-79 win. Every Georgian Court basket seemed to have an answer and as close as the Lions got, the Lightning never let them tie or take the lead in the second half. With the loss, GCU now stands at 8-15 and 5-10 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• Goldey-Beacom showed why they're a top offense in the CACC. They shot 52.5% for the night and were 8-19 from three-point land.
• The Lions shot well themselves, including making 10 three-pointers. They were 44.3% overall and 10-29 from behind the arc.
• Both teams were below 70% at the foul line. Georgian Court shot well below their season average at 65.2%. Goldey-Beacom was 19-28 for 67.9%.
• Georgian Court also uncharacteristically had a problem holding onto the ball. They turned it over 20 times which led to 25 Goldey points off turnovers. They forced 18 Lightning giveaways.
• GBC was able to grab 41 rebounds to the Lions 32. They had a 13-10 edge on the offensive glass and led 14-11 in second-chance points.Â
First Half
• Goldey-Beacom started the scoring with a three-ball a minute into the game.
• They started out with a 5-0 lead, but the Lions answered scoring 13 straight points. GCU was 5-5 over a 2:32 span with
Donald-James Imo and
Taheen Braswell-Brown scoring four each.
• The Lions maintained that lead until the Lightning tied things at 17 just passed the midway point in the half.
• GBC reclaimed the lead and the teams were trading points. Neither team led by more than four points for nearly 10 minutes.Â
• Late in the half, Goldey started to pull away. Tre Powell buried a three to make it a six-point game, 40-34. He then added a pair at the line the Lightning took an eight-point lead into the break, 47-39.
Second Half
• A three-pointer gave Goldey their largest lead, 50-39 to start the half.
• Georgian Court didn't give in though.
• A dunk from
Amar Lane brought the lead back into single-digits, 50-42.
• Now trailing by six,
Anthony Gooden beat the shot clock with a fadeaway three, and got crushed in the process. While there was no foul called, he made it a one-possession game, 56-53, with 14 minutes to play.Â
• The Lions kept fighting, but the Lightning had an answer each time to keep GCU at bay.
•
Donavin Crawford hit a number of big threes to keep the Lions in the game.
• Thanks to a pair of Goldey-Beacom turnovers, the Lions had a chance to cut further into the lead in the final five minutes.Â
• The offense couldn't capitalize though and GCU needed to foul to extend the game.Â
• In the final two minutes, the Lightning put the game away going 7-10 at the line and won by 10, 89-79.Â
