NEW CASTLE, Del. (April 26, 2026) - Georgian Court Baseball used a ninth inning rally to send their series finale with Wilmington into extra innings. In the extra frame though, the Wildcats ended the game on just one swing, 5-4, and completed the three-game sweep.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court out hit the Wildcats 9-8.
• They made two errors in the game and allowed an unearned run to score.
• GCU pitchers did a great job limiting free bases. They walked just three and didn't hit a batter.
• At the plate, the Lions struck out 13 times and left nine on base.
• Wilmington scored early, plating three runs in the first. A one-out error opened the inning and two run-scoring hits gave the Wildcats an early 3-0 lead.
• The score stayed that way until the sixth when
Matt DiOttavio drove in
Jack Greenspan with a single. The Lions made it a one-run game later in the inning, pulling off a double-steal with DiOttavio swiping second and
Brian Guzman stealing home.
• The Wildcats got one run back in the seventh with a two-out RBI single and led 4-2 going into the ninth.
• Georgian Court was down to their final out, but refused to go down.
Evangelos Spyrogiannis started the inning with a double and came in to score on
Frank Marra's pinch hit, RBI single.
Frankie Noviello kept the inning alive singling on an 0-2 pitch and moving Marra into scoring position. Greenspan then went the other other on a 3-2 pitch to bring in Marra with the tying run.
• The Lions went down in order in the 10th and Wilmington ended the game one batter into the bottom of the inning with a walk-off home run.

• Good start from
Donovan Gevers who threw 6.2 innings allowing four runs, three earned on six hits with five strikeouts.

Jack Greenspan finished the game 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Matt DiOttavio was on base three times with a single, RBI and two walked.

Evangelos Spyrogiannis doubled and scored.
For the Wlidcats
• Tyler Pirrung played the hero hitting the walk-off homer. He was 2-5 on the day with two RBI and two runs scored.
• Cam Trego singled and drove in two runs.
• Brian Klumpp went 1-3 with a run and an RBI.
• Scott Borgmann threw the final 4.2 innings and allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.Â
News and Notes
• This was the Lions first ever game to end in 10 innings. Their only other game to go beyond nine innings ended in 11.
•
Donovan Gevers set a season-high pitching 6.2 innings. His five strikeouts also match a season-best.
• Georgian Court didn't hit a batter in the last two games. It's the first time they went consecutive games without a hit batsman in 25 games.
