Lions Tie Wilmington in Ninth, But Fall in 10th

NEW CASTLE, Del. (April 26, 2026) - Georgian Court Baseball used a ninth inning rally to send their series finale with Wilmington into extra innings. In the extra frame though, the Wildcats ended the game on just one swing, 5-4, and completed the three-game sweep.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court out hit the Wildcats 9-8.
• They made two errors in the game and allowed an unearned run to score.
• GCU pitchers did a great job limiting free bases. They walked just three and didn't hit a batter.
• At the plate, the Lions struck out 13 times and left nine on base.
• Wilmington scored early, plating three runs in the first. A one-out error opened the inning and two run-scoring hits gave the Wildcats an early 3-0 lead.
• The score stayed that way until the sixth when Matt DiOttavio drove in Jack Greenspan with a single. The Lions made it a one-run game later in the inning, pulling off a double-steal with DiOttavio swiping second and Brian Guzman stealing home.
• The Wildcats got one run back in the seventh with a two-out RBI single and led 4-2 going into the ninth.
• Georgian Court was down to their final out, but refused to go down. Evangelos Spyrogiannis started the inning with a double and came in to score on Frank Marra's pinch hit, RBI single. Frankie Noviello kept the inning alive singling on an 0-2 pitch and moving Marra into scoring position. Greenspan then went the other other on a 3-2 pitch to bring in Marra with the tying run.
• The Lions went down in order in the 10th and Wilmington ended the game one batter into the bottom of the inning with a walk-off home run.
