JACKSON, NJ (April 7, 2026) - With injuries mounting and a slew of games in a short span, Georgian Court Baseball just needed to survive their doubleheader against Staten Island. It wasn't pretty and very unorthodox at times, but despite two losses to the Dolphins, the Lions made it through to the other side where more conference games await this week.
Game 1 - Staten Island 10, Georgian Court 7 - 7 Innings
How it Happened
• Staten Island scored 10 run on nine hits.
• The Lions scored seven times with seven base knocks.
• GCU walked nine times while Lion pitchers walked six.
• In seven innings, Georgian Court struck out seven times. Lion pitchers fanned two.
• Both teams made a pair of errors. GCU allowed two unearned runs to score.
•
Brady Parks worked around a one-out double in the first to keep the game scoreless.
• He couldn't work around a two-out error though in the second. That put a runner in scoring position and the Dolphins cashed in one batter later with an RBI single.
• Georgian Court had an excellent chance to at least tie the game in the bottom of the inning. They loaded the bases with nobody out, but a line out and a ground ball double play ended the inning without a run crossing the plate.
• CSI nearly escaped another jam an inning later. After the first two Lion hitters walked, they were still on first and second with two out.
Brian Guzman and
Matt DiOttavio followed with back-to-back two-out RBI hits and the Lions led 3-1 after three.
• The Lions took advantage of the Dolphin defense in the fourth.
Akhil Penkala led off the inning with a double then back-to-back bunts were misplayed and everyone was safe as Penkala came in to score. Three batters later,
Jack Greenspan drove in a run with a single and the Lions led 5-1.
• Things went south for Georgian Court in the fifth. They allowed seven runs on just three hits as GCU walked five and hit two batters in the inning.
• Staten Island added two insurance runs in the seventh scoring a pair of unearned runs to make it a 10-5 game.
