LAKEWOOD, NJ (Sept. 16, 2026) - One game after seeing their four-game unbeaten streak to start the season come to an end, Georgian Court Men's Soccer got started on another streak and were right back in the win column. Behind four second-half goals, Georgian Court won big over regional rival Roberts Wesleyan, 5-2, to improve to 3-1-2 on the season.
How it Happened
• The field seemed to be tilted towards the Lions with how much they controlled the game.
• Possession numbers favored the Lions 57%-43%.
• The shot totals match that, with GCU taking 32 total shots to the RedHawks nine. The Lions led in shots on goal, 13-3.
• One reason for the tilted pitch, a 12-1 GCU advantage on corner kicks.
• Each team was whistled for 12 common fouls. The Lions were issued one yellow card and while three RedHawks players were carded.
1st Half
• The shots were coming early and often for the Lions, but GCU couldn't find the back of the net.
• Roberts Wesleyan keeper Juan Daniel Espinoza Rubio made two saves in the first seven minutes and the Lions took four corners in the first 10:22.
• The RedHawks were on their heels for nearly the entire first half and while they certainly bent, hadn't yet broke.
• That changed with less than seven minutes to play in the half.
Yanis Achouri pushed a pass at the top of the box to
Gijs van Eif. He side-stepped a defender, shot and scored the game's first goal.
• The rest of the half played out quietly and GCU took a 1-0 lead into the break.
2nd Half
• After not playing in the first half,
Bryan Sanchez made his presence felt in the second. He got a shot on net that was saved in the first minute of play.
• Just 40 seconds later, the ball was back on his foot after a pass from
Felix Kramper. He moved horizontal across the 18 to spring himself open and this time beat the keeper for a 2-0 Lions lead.
• Roberts Wesleyan got the goal back less than a minute later. They finally were able to get some offensive pressure and a pass inside the box was headed in by Archie Murphy to cut the lead in half.
• Georgian Court took 12 corner kicks in the game, but just two in the second half. The first saw the ball land at
Christian Chancellor's feet who's shot was saved, but
Lennox Dorn was there to clean up the rebound and bring the Lions back to a two-goal lead, 3-1.
• The Lions offense was rolling now and midway through the frame, made it a 4-1 game.
Yanis Achouri played the ball ahead to van Eif, who shuffled it laterally to Dorn who one-touched the ball into the net from 20 yards away.
• The combination of van Eif and Dorn connected again, this time with van Eif the goal scorer. In the 75th minute, a turnover caused by
Muntag Diallo gave the Lions the ball back in the offensive zone. Dorn quickly moved the ball forward to van Eif who dribbled around the RWU keeper who came out to challenge and van Eif had nothing but open net in front of his to score his second of the game.
• Roberts Wesleyan added a late goal, but the result was never in question and the Lions won going away, 5-2.

• It was a five-point day for
Gijs van Eif who scored twice and added an assist.

Lennox Dorn came off the bench to match van Eif with two goals, an assist and five points.

For the RedHawks
• Archie Murphy scored on his only shot of the game.
• Davi Moretzsohn picked up a goal and an assist.
• Juan David Espinoza Rubio was under fire all game and made eight saves.
News and Notes
• Both
Bryan Sanchez and
Lennox Dorn scored their first career goals. For Dorn it took five games. For Sanchez his first came in his 26th game as a Lion.
• The Lions 12 corner kicks are their most since taking 14 at Chestnut Hill October 26, 2022. The 11 corner kick disparity was their greatest since GCU took 18 to Felician's 0 during the Covid-19 season in March of 2021.
• This is the second time this season GCU has scored five goals. The last time they scored at least five goals in a match twice in one season was back in 2018. They reached five goals five times that season with a high of eight.
•
Gijs van Eif has multiple points in four straight games. It's his second brace of the season and his seventh career multi-goal game.
• Special moment for senior
Marcus Rodrigues who appeared in a game for the first time in his four-year career.
