Dream Season Comes to a Close as GCU Soccer falls to St. Rose in NCAA's, 2-0

RINDGE, NH-The magical 2008 season has come to an end for Georgian Court University soccer as the CACC champions fell to #21 The College of St. Rose, 2-0, Friday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship at Sodexho Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University. The three-seed Golden Knights improve to 17-3-2 and will take on #2-seed Franklin Pierce (15-3-2) on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 PM. The Lions end the campaign at 12-7-5, which included a 15-game unbeaten streak.

Georgian Court simply could not get things going offensively, as the team tallied just three shots. CACC Rookie of the Year, Kelly Lyons (Fr.-Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), and Candace Seaton (Fr.-Bellport, NY/Victory Christian Academy), who netted 22 and nine goals, respectively, this season were each held without a single shot.

St. Rose kicked off the scoring when midfielder Jordan Bowers (So.-Colorado Springs, CO) deposited a Jaclyn Evans' (So.-Georgetown, MA) cross at 39:13. Midfielder Lizzie Shegda (Jr.-Yardley, PA) made it a 2-0 contest at 73:52 as she drove home a Nicola D'Errico (Fr.-Shrewsbury, MA) pass.

The Golden Knights outshot the Lions, 16-3, in their second victory over GCU this season. St. Rose topped Georgian Court by the same 2-0 score on August 31st at the Nike Kick-Off Classic in Worcester, MA.

Lions' goalkeeper, Lindsay Hammond (Jr.-Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) turned away four shots while suffering her sixth loss (11-6-5) of the year. St. Rose netminder, Shannon Murphy (Jr.-Charlton, MA), made two saves in the shutout.
