PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women’s basketball team made 11 of its first 13 shots of the contest on the way to a 71-55 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Georgian Court University on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.
Holy Family (6-1, 3-0 CACC) is now on a six-game winning streak. The victory is the Tigers' 76th in a row when holding an opponent to less than 60 points. It is Holy Family’s 88th consecutive regular season conference win. The team is four wins away from tying the NCAA Division II record for most consecutive regular season in-conference wins. Abington, Pa./St. Basil’s Academy) and Erin Mann (fr. West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) each recorded six points during the run, which had six different Tigers score.
Carr gave the Tigers a game-high 19-point lead by connecting on a jumper to make the score 31-12 with 5:20 left in the half. At half-time, Holy Family had a 37-23 advantage.
Georgian Court (2-6, 1-1 CACC) scored 10 consecutive points, capped off by a three-pointer by guard Dana Wert (pictured), to pull with seven (43-36) with 14:35 left.
Leading 57-48, Holy Family scored 10 of the game’s next 12 points to increase its lead to 17 points (67-50) with 3:38 remaining. Mann hit two free throws with 42 seconds remaining that allowed Holy Family to match its game-high 19-point advantage (71-52).
Carr finished with 19 points and four rebounds. McCollum contributed 14 points, five rebounds and five assists. She is now 53 points away from reaching 1,000 in her career. Mann came off-the-bench to record 14 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks, all career-highs. Gibson and forward Lindsey Tennett (jr. Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) both had eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
For Georgian Court, Wert recorded a season-high 19 points and four assists. Guard Dee Varley added 14 points and four steals. Forward Shaniqua Bacote poured in 10 points and grabbed a team-best five rebounds.
