Lions Break Lady Deacons' Hearts in 64-43 Valentine's Day Rout of Bloomfield College

LAKEWOOD, NJ-Georgian Court University returned to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon at the GCU Wellness Center as the Lions stomped the Lady Deacons, 64-43, for their sixth victory in seven contests. Dee Varley (Jr.-Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands) led the charge for GCU, coming within three assists (seven total) of the club's first triple-double of the season. Varley ended up with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, 14 of the defensive variety. Georgian Court's Patti Foley (Sr.-Lake Grove, NY) led all scorers with 15 points and completed a double-double of her own with 11 rebounds. Kiki Mayweather (So.-Lakewood, NJ/Manchester Regional) distributed eight assists in 24 minutes of action.

GCU (12-13, 8-8 CACC) continues to score points, having eclipsed the 60-point plateau in seven of its last 10 contests. Sporting pink shoelaces, pink socks and, in some cases, pink hair, in honor of WBCA Pink Zone Day at the "Well", the Lions shot 21-49 from the field (42.9%). Bloomfield (12-11, 9-5 CACC) shot a paltry 14-for-68 (20.6%), including 3-20 (15%) from three-point land.

The Lions, led by Varley's 7-for-10 effort, dropped in 65.5% (19-for-29) of their free throws. Bloomfield posted a 46.2 shooting percentage (12-26) from the charity stripe.

Milani Milak (Jr.-Brooklyn, NY) led the Lady Deacons in scoring with nine points. Tiffany McDaniel (So.-Colonia, NJ) grabbed 11 boards for BC in the losing effort.

Throughout the contest, the GCU community raised funds in recognition of the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund in partnership with the V Foundation.

GCU looks to climb to .500 on Tuesday when they travel to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
