LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Georgian Court University basketball team found the win column for the first time in a month Saturday afternoon as the Lions dropped visting Concordia College, 74-53, in the Wellness Center. GCU had lost four straight contests since its last victory back on December 16th vs. Cheyney University.
Junior
Lauren Staats and freshman
Shawna Wert each compiled 11 points apiece in the first half as the Lions outscored the Clippers, 42-22, in the period. Georgian Court peaked at 7:22 remaining in the stanza when they held a 24-point advantage (35-11), going on a 14-0 run during the previous five minutes.
GCU outscored the visitors, 32-31, in the second half, led by sophomore
Christina White's (pictured) nine points. White enjoyed her best game of the season, netting 15 total points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes. Staats and Wert led the Lions with 16 points each.
Senior
Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) was the star offensive force for Concordia, leading all scorers with 23 points (10-for-25) in 33 minutes of play. She also grabbed seven boards. Senior
Gianna Zonghetti (Garrison, NY) dropped in 11 points in 30 minutes while senior
Gina Amato (West Haven, CT) led the squad with nine rebounds.
With the win, Georgian Court improves to 4-10 (2-5 CACC) while Concordia College will continue its search for its first victory of the season (0-14, 0-6 CACC).
The Lions conclude their season-high, five-game homestand this Tuesday evening when they welcome the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) to "The Well" for a 6:00 PM contest.
