Lions Kick Off New Year with 79-62 Defeat at Wilmington U.

WILMINGTON, DE- After a 19 day layoff, the Georgian Court University basketball returned to the hardwood Tuesday evening, falling at CACC-rival Wilmington University, 79-62, in the Lions' first game of 2010. GCU had not seen action since defeating Cheney University, 65-49, in the Wellness Center back on December 16th.

Lauren Staats led the Georgian Court offense with a personal season-high 17 points (7-for-15), which included a 3-for-11 effort from beyond the arc. Dee Varley snared a team-high 10 boards while Dana Wert (6-for-6) and sister, Shawna Wert (4-for-4) continued their masterful free-throw shooting as they shot a combined 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. Dana also contributed a game-high seven assists. As a duo, the sisters have drained 84% of their free throws on the year (76-for-91).

With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-7 on the season (1-2 CACC) and 0-5 on the road. The Wildcats improve to 5-6 overall and even their conference record at 2-2.

Georgian Court commences a five-game homestand this Thursday evening when Philadelphia University visits "The Well" for a 6PM contest.
