Road Woes Continue for Lions, Drop 53-46 Decision at Dominican College

Orangeburg, NY- The Dominican College women's basketball team defeated the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University, 53-46 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) basketball action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

The Lions struggled with their outside game, shooting just 15.8% (3-19) from the three point arc and just 28.3% (15-53) from the floor.  DC shot better from three point land, 33.3% (5-15) and finished 17-41 (41.5%) from the floor.

GCU opened the game with a 3-1 lead, but the Lady Chargers answered with a 13-4 run to take a 14-7 lead just over twelve minutes left before the intermission.  Trailing 17-11, the Lions roared back with six straight points to tie the contest at 17-17.  DC closed out the first half outscoring GCU 10-3 to take a 27-20 lead into the break.

Dominican would never trail in the second half and led by as many as 14 points (42-28) with 7:24 remaining.  GCU was able to cut the deficit to five points (46-41) with 3:16 to go, but would get no closer as DC earned the 53-46 victory.

Freshman Dana Wert led the Lions with 12 points and three steals. Christina White (pictured) netted 10 points and four rebounds, while freshman Shaniqua Bacote grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Senior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) led two Lady Chargers in double-figures with 17 points and two steals.  Fellow senior Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) had the game's only double-double with 15 points (5-10 from the floor) and 10 caroms.

With the victory Dominican improves to 12-13 overall and 9-8 in the CACC, while Georgian Court University falls to 8-16 overallm 1-10 on the road and 6-11 in the CACC.

The Lions close out the home portion of their schedule Tuesday evening with a 6:00 PM contest vs. Wilmington University. GCU will host its annual "Senior Night" as they honor seniors Miesha Barksdale, Tifanni Brown and Dee Varley prior to the game.
