LAKEWOOD, NJ- On a night that Georgian Court University honored its seniors, the Lions fell to visiting Wilmington University, 62-54, Tuesday evening at the Wellness Center. The contest marked the final home game for
Dee Varley,
Tifanni Brown and the injured
Miesha Barksdale.
After being dominated by the Wildcats, 27-14, in the first half, the Lions outscored Wilmington, 40-35, in the second stanza. GCU lived and died by the three-pointer, going 1-for-10 from beyond the arc in the first half and 8-for-16 in the second.
Three Lions scored in double-digits, including
Shawna Wert (15 points, 7 rebounds), Varley (14 points, 7 rebounds) and
Dana Wert (13 points, 4 rebounds).
Wilmington was paced by
Amelia Simmons' (Sr.-Wilmington, DE) 23 points in 30 minutes.
Kim Parker (Sr.-New Castle, DE) drained 13 points for the Wildcats while surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her career in the second half.
The Lions fall to 8-17 on the campaign (6-12 CACC) while Wilmington improves to 13-12 (10-7 CACC).
Georgian Court is scheduled to play at Nyack College on Thursday evening at 7pm after getting snowed out back on February 6th.
