Lions Wilt Versus Bloomsburg University, 72-55

Tahira Matthews
LAKEWOOD, NJ- Seeing its first action in 13 days, the Georgian Court University basketball squad fell to visiting Bloomsburg University, 72-55, in a Friday matinee at the GCU Wellness Center.

The Lions (2-9) took a 2-0 lead on an Ebony Sellers jumper at 18:49, which would be the only lead Georgian Court would experience in the contest. A three-pointer from Inayah Williams at 9:39 made the score 16-14 and brought the Lions to within a basket of tying Bloomsburg, but the Huskies quickly took a commanding advantage by closing the stanza with a 26-10 run.

Bloomsburg (10-2), after shooting 48.6% from the field in the first half, shot only 9-for-24 (37.5%) in the second and were outscored by the home club, 31-30, in the frame. Unfortunately, the deficit was too much to surmount for Georgian Court as they trailed 65-40 with 8:12 remaining in the game. The Lions did play hard to the end, however, topping the visitors, 15 -7, during the remaining time.

Dana Wieller (Jr.-Bethlehem, PA) led the Huskies with 23 points in 24 minutes, including 7-14 from the floor, 6-for-8 from the charity stripe and a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the three-point line. Laura Ellis (Jr.-Bangor, PA) compiled a double-double with her 11 points and 10 rebounds. Catherine Noack (So.-Bethlehem, PA) contributed 12 points in 19 minutes off the Bloomsburg bench.

Tahira Matthews topped GCU with 13 points. Brittany Sims also eclipsed double-digits with her 11 points while Sellers provided nine points and a team-high six assists.

Georgian Court returns to CACC competition Thursday evening when they visit Goldey-Beacom College at 7:00 PM. The Lions fell to the reigning conference champions back on December 8th, 74-59, in the Wellness Center.
