PHILADELPHIA – Four Lady Rams recorded double-digit point totals as the Philadelphia University women's basketball team defeated visiting Georgian Court University, 71-53, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday night in the Gallagher Center.
Guard Stephanie Agger (Sr.-Wildwood Crest, NJ) led Philadelphia (6-2, 2-0 CACC), a winner in its last three games, with 16 points. Agger also had six rebounds, a season-high five steals and four assists. Center Christine Wooding (Sr.-Northfield, NJ) contributed 14 points, seven boards and three steals. Guard Najah Jacobs (Fr.-Philadelphia) netted 12 points, while forward Kristen Blye (Jr.-Chester Springs, PA) had ten.
Georgian Court (1-5, 0-1 CACC) got 16 points from Shauneia McPhearson. Brianey Winslow came off the bench to add 14 points.
Philadelphia shot 41.7 percent (20-of-48) from the field, while Georgian Court connected at a 35.8 percent (19-of-53) clip. The Lady Rams attempted 43 free throws, making 31 (72.1 percent) The Lions were 10-of-19 at the line (52.6 percent). Philadelphia had a slight rebounding advantage, 36-35.
Defense played a big role in the first half for Philadelphia as the team forced 17 turnovers in the first 16:26 to open up a 38-7 lead. The Lady Rams held the Lions to 1-of-21 shooting during that span. Philadelphia led at the half 40-15.
After playing its last five contests on the road, the Lions return to the Wellness Center to commence a five-game homestand. Georgian Court welcomes defending CACC champion Goldey-Beacom College to the "Well" Thursday evening for a 6:00 PM showdown.
