LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Center Christine Wooding (Sr.-Northfield, NJ) scored a career-high 32 points, including the 1,000th in her career, to lead the Philadelphia University women's basketball team to a 96-77 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Georgian Court University Tuesday night in the Wellness Center.
Wooding, who also grabbed 16 rebounds to complete her ninth double-double this year, became the program's 26th player to score at least 1,000 points when she sunk a pair of free throws with 6:34 left in the contest.
Wooding was one of five Philadelphia (11-4, 6-1 CACC) players to reach double figure scoring. Guard Stephanie Agger (Sr.-Wildwood Crest, NJ) poured in 17 points and tied her career-best with eight assists. Agger is 37 points away from joining Wooding on the 1,000-career point list. Forwards Taylor Peltzer (Jr. Holland, PA) and Kristen Blye (Jr.-Chester Springs, PA) scored 15 and 13 points, respectively. Guard Megan Finn (So.-Collegeville, PA) netted 10 points.
Georgian Court (2-12, 1-6 CACC) got a season-high 30 points from Shauneia McPhearson and 12 from Christina White.
The Lady Rams shot 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the field and held the Lions to 38.0 percent (30-of-79). Philadelphia connected on 88.9 percent (32-of-36) of its free throws attempts, while Georgian Court hit at an 88.2 percent (15-of-17) clip. The Lady Rams owned a 46-39 rebounding advantage.
Philadelphia broke open a tight contest with a 13-3 run, that had six different players contribute, to take a 41-30 lead with 36 seconds left in the first half. The Lady Rams took a 43-32 lead to the intermission.
The lead remained in double-figures for the final 16:49, reaching a game-high 24 points (94-70) when forward Courtney Overholt (So.-Centreville, VA) made two free throws. Guard Natasha Hay (Fr.-Quakertown, PA) hit a lay-up, after receiving a pass from guard Samantha Morris, with 34 seconds left for her first collegiate points.
Georgian Court next hosts Holy Family University in CACC action Thursday evening in "The Well" at 6:00 PM.
