GCU Hoops Scorched by U. Sciences Devils, 89-62

LAKEWOOD, NJ- The University of the Sciences, led by a career-high 31 points from junior Becca Ruggear (Oxford, PA), cruised to an 89-62 road triumph over the Georgian Court University basketball squad Tuesday evening in the GCU Wellness Center.

The Devils (10-7 (6-3 CACC) never trailed in the contest and led by as much as 33 points when senior Sarah Hickman (Newark, DE) drained two free throws with 1:50 remaining to make the score 89-56. Univ. of the Sciences dominiated from the floor outshooting  the Lions, 66% (33-for-50) to 35.5% (22-for-62).

Ruggear shot 11-for-16 from the floor and went 9-for-13 from the charity stripe in her 25 minutes. She also collected a team-high eight rebounds. Six-time CACC Rookie of the Week Brianne Traub (Fr.-Wayne, NJ) garnered 19 points, six boards, and five assists in 30 minutes. Hickman and junior Elsebeth Birman (Jr.-Silver Spring, MD) contributed 10 points each.

As for the Lions (2-16, 1-10 CACC), senior Christina White earned her second double-double of the campaign with a team-leading 17 points and 10 rebounds over 37 minutes. Brittany Baker dropped in 13 points and controlled eight boards in 26 minutes of action.

Georgian Court takes to the road Thursday evening for a CACC contest at Wilmington University (1-12, 0-8 CACC). Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
