NYACK, NY- The Georgian Court University basketball squad secured its second consecutive victory for the first time since the 2009-10 season Saturday afternoon as the Lions outlasted Nyack College, 62-56.
GCU (4-16, 3-10 CACC) last earned a two-game winning streak in February 2010 when they defeated University of the Sciences (2/9/10) and Felician College (2/13/10) in consecutive games. Georgian Court had not won two straight road games since dropping Caldwell College (1/31/09) and Chestnut Hill College (2/10/09) during the 2008-09 campaign.
The Warriors (1-14, 1-9 CACC) led by as many as ten points late in the first half and entered the break up six points, 37-31. Nyack took a commanding 49-35 lead five minutes into the second stanza, but the Lions would finish the contest with a 27-7 run to pull out the triumph.
Shauneia McPhearson topped all scorers with 18 points in 36 minutes, including an 8-for-12 effort from the free-throw line. Tahira Matthews dropped in 17 points of her own and came within a rebound (nine total) of a double-double in 31 minutes of action. Ebony Sellers contributed ten points in her 22 minutes.
GCU stays on the road for its third straight game as they travel to Holy Family University Wednesday evening for a 6:00 PM tip-off.
