#14 Holy Family Proves Too Much for Georgian Court with 75-60 CACC Victory

Christina White grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds in Tuesday's 75-60 loss to #14 Holy Family University.
LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad provided a valiant effort Tuesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action vs. #14 Holy Family University (even coming within five points with 15:08 remaining), but the Tigers survived the GCU swarm and dismissed the Lions, 75-60,  for the road triumph.

GCU, losers of four straight, drop to 1-4 (1-1 CACC) while Holy Family improves to 4-1 (2-0 CACC).

Holy Family, which led the contest from start to finish, commenced the game on an 8-0 run with the Lions cutting the deficit to 10-8, courtesy of a Christina White jumper at 14:54 in the first. Carolyne Heston's (Jr.-Feasterville, PA) jumper with 11:42 remaining concluded a 12-2 run by the Tigers, making it a score of 22-10.

Erin Mann (Sr.-West Chester, PA) proved to be a first-half handful in the middle against the Georgian Court defense as the 6'1" center dropped in 12 points (including a perfect six-for-six at the charity stripe), while swatting three GCU shots and snaring seven boards. Holy Family headed into intermission with a 42-33 advantage.

The Lions opened the second stanza with a 7-3 spurt to cut the Tigers' lead to 45-40 with 15:08 remaining, but that would be as close as Holy Family would permit the home team. The vistors sprinted on a 23-8 run over the next ten minutes to achieve a game-high 20-point lead of 68-48 with 5:16 left on the clock.

The Tigers outshot Georgian Court from the floor, 43.3% (26-60) to 33.8% (27-80) and dropped in 13 more free throws (6-17 vs. 4-12) than the Lions.

Kelly Brady (Sr.-Ocean City, NJ) tallied a double-double for the victors with a game-high 23 points (10-for-17 from the floor) to go along with 11 boards in 29 minutes. Mann also enjoyed a double-double of her own with 18 points and ten rebounds, while also adding six blocks.

Ana Cruz (Sr.-Lititz, PA) added 11 points in 22 minutes off the Holy Family bench. Molly Hanlon (Sr.-Narberth, PA) provided 10 points, six boards, and a team-high five assists in 30 minutes of action.

Shauneia McPhearson came within one rebound (nine boards, 16 points) of her first double-double of the season. Ebony Sellers needed two assists (eight total) to do the same as the 5'4" senior also collected 15 points, six rebounds and four steals in her 34 minutes.

Christina White ripped down a game-high 14 rebounds in the effort. Brittany Baker put in 12 points to go with eight rebounds of her own.

GCU heads back out on the road this Saturday for a CACC showdown at Caldwell College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
