Lions Toppled at Holy Family, 74-42

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Georgian Court University with a 74-42 victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
 
Holy Family improves to 15-7 overall and 11-2 in conference play, while Georgian Court falls to 4-17 overall and 3-11 in the CACC.  Holy Family currently sits atop the CACC South Division by half a game over Philadelphia University who is currently 10-2 in conference play.
 
Junior Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Holy Family offense.  Mann shot 7-of-9 from the field after knocking down her first seven shots of the game.  She also grabbed six rebounds and blocked one shot.  Junior Kelly Brady (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) added 11 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds, while fellow classmate Molly Hanlon (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) added ten points.
 
Sophomores Carolyne Heston (Feasterville, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and Devon Spirka (Wilmington, Vt./Twin Valley) each shot 3-of-4 from the field off the bench for the Tigers.  Heston finished the game with nine points, while Spirka added seven.
 
For Georgian Court, redshirt freshman Tahira Matthews was the team's top scorer with eight points.  Senior Christina White grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to go along with five points.
 
Holy Family began the game on an 18-8 run to lead by ten points at the 12:38 mark of the half.  Hanlon knocked down a jumper to give the Tigers their double-digit advantage.
 
Later in the half, Georgian Court would cut the Tigers' lead to five points after senior Ryan McGrath drained a three-pointer to make the score 28-23 with 5:44 to play until halftime.  However, Holy Family responded and closed the first half out with a 13-3 run to lead by the score of 41-26 at the end of the half.
 
In the second half, it was all Holy Family on both sides of the ball.  The Tigers limited Georgian Court to only 3-of-28 shooting from the field and forced 13 turnovers in the second half.   The Lions shot only 32.1-percent from the field for the game and turned the ball over 29 times.
 
Offensively, the Tigers connected on over half their shots in the second half (13-32) to outscore the Lions, 33-16.  Holy Family opened the second half with a 19-4 run to lead by 30 points at the 12:44 mark.  Holy Family would lead by as many as 36 points in the final minutes of the game after freshman Sarah Pawlak (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Buffalo Academy of the Sacred) connected on a jumper to make the score 74-38.

GCU returns home Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 PM contest vs. Post University (5-14, 3-9 CACC) in the Wellness Center. The Lions dropped a 93-77 decision vs. the Eagles back on November 16 in Waterbury, CT.
