Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team remained undefeated at home as the Tigers defeated Georgian Court University by the score of 66-28 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Gym.
Holy Family, ranked 14th in the recent USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, improves to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play. With the win, the Tigers remain undefeated at the Campus Center with an 8-0 mark. Georgian Court is now 4-11 overall and 4-6 in the CACC.
Senior
Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Holy Family offense. Mann shot 9-of-11 from the field and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked three shots.
Junior
Maggie Serratelli (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) finished with nine points and four rebounds, while senior
Kelly Brady (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) contributed eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Brady also recorded four steals. Junior
Mary Ellen McCollum (Abington, Pa./St. Basil Academy) added six points for the Tigers, while senior
Molly Hanlon (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) filled the stat sheet with five points, five assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
For Georgian Court, senior
Christina White led the team with nine points to go along with six rebounds. Sophomore
Tahira Matthews finished with a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with three steals.
Holy Family led from beginning to end as the Tigers' offense exploded out the gate quickly mounting a ten-point advantage after a jumper by Mann made the score 13-3 (15:52).
The Holy Family defense limited Georgian Court to only two field goals the entire first half as the Tigers' lead swelled to 29 points heading into halftime (37-8).
In the first half alone, the defense forced 17 Lions' turnovers and held them to only 2-of-28 shooting. Holy Family held Georgian Court to 14.0-percent shooting for the game and finished with 27 turnovers.
In the second half, Holy Family increased its lead to as many as 40-points after freshman
Kim Legen (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) drained a three-pointer to make the score 60-20 with 5:33 to play in regulation.
As a team, Holy Family shot 37.3-percent from the field and controlled the boards with 54 rebounds.
The Lions return home Tuesday evening to host CACC-rival Wilmington University at 6:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center Arena.
