CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College got goals from four different individuals en route to a 4-1 victory over visiting Division II member Georgian Court  in a non-conference men's soccer match on Tuesday night at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Shoremen are now 6-5-1 overall, while the Lions fall to 5-6-1.

Washington downed a Division II squad for the first time since 1985 when they downed Mount St. Mary's (now a member of Division I), 1-0, and topped its first non-Division III opponent since 1989 when they beat Maryland-Eastern Shore, 15-1.

The Lions got onto the board at the 17:41 mark when Michael Clarke converted a penalty kick into the lower left corner after a foul was called on the Shoremen in the box.  Washington evened the match at 1-1 at 34:17 off of a corner kick.  Freshman midfielder Dimitri Kaliakin (Landensburg, Pa./Salesianum (Del.) sent the corner kick into the box and it was headed by junior forward Sam Draper (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) in the air and freshman forward Chris Lewandowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) headed the loose ball into the upper left corner to tie it.  Washington would take the lead into halftime 3:20 later when junior forward Tyler Fernandez (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) registered his first Washington College goal from freshman back Derek Stiles (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough).  Stiles played a ball in from about 40 yards out that Fernandez controlled about 10 yards from goal and his shot hit the right post and into the net to give the hosts a 2-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Draper put the Shoremen ahead 3-1 when he headed in a cross into the right side of the goal off of a free kick from junior midfielder Matt Wilfong (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) after a foul right outside the box set up the free kick 52:16 into the contest.  Freshman forward Brian Wilkinson (Sykesville, Md./Mount St. Joseph) dribbled down the right side and put the shot into the lower left corner of the net at 63:25 to cap the scoring.

The Shoremen held a 20-6 edge in shots, while the Lions had five of the seven corner kicks in the match.  In goal, sophomore goalkeeper David Myers (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made a pair of saves to notch the victory for the Shoremen, while Sebastian Mikuska made three saves in the first half for the Lions and Brian Hochstuhl stopped four shots in the second half for the visitors.

The Shoremen snapped a five-match winless streak with the win.

GCU returns to conference play Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with a road trip to Dominican College.
