Lakwood, N.J.-The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad, hosting its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest of the year, dropped a 63-57 decision to visiting Goldey-Beacom College Tuesday evening in the GCU Wellness Center.
The Lions drop their second straight game and dip to 1-5 (0-2 CACC) on the campaign while the Lightning improve to 4-2 and even its conference mark at 1-1.
GCU developed seven-point advantages on two seperate occasions during the first half of action, including a 14-7 lead at 12:22 and a 20-13 surplus with 6:51 left to go before intermission. The Lightning bolted on a 14-4 run over the remaining time to enter the half up 27-24.
Goldey-Beacom owned the second frame, never losing the lead during the period. A
Lillian Chukwueze (Jr.-Cherry Hill, N.J.) three-pointer with 14:50 remaining increased the Lightning high-water mark to 11 points at 41-30, a lead that proved to be insuperable for the home team. A 22-13 spurt by the Lions cut the deficit to 54-52 with 4:11 remaining, but to no avail as Goldey-Beacom outscored the Lions, 9-5, the rest of the way to solidify its first CACC triumph of the season.
Chukwueze dominated on the offensive end of the floor, shooting 10-for-20 from the field, to register a game-high 28 points in 36 minutes. She also snagged eight boards and a team-high three steals in the quality effort.
Chelsea Grover (Jr.-Southampton, N.J.) dropped in 11 points, while also dishing four assists, swatting four GCU shots, and grabbing six boards in 29 minutes.
Briana Richmond-Peters (Sr.-Camden, N.J.) contributed eight points and led all players with 12 rebounds in her 34 minutes.
Ashiri Broadwater paced the Lions with a team-high 16 points and nine boards in 28 minutes of action.
Keosha Parks also saw 28 minutes of floor time, compiling 11 points, three assists, and three steals.
Elizabeth Lawler sank 12 points, while adding eight rebounds and two blocks in 30 minutes.
Georgian Court returns to the hardwood Monday evening when they host the College of St. Rose at 6:00 p.m.
