Tahira Matthews
Manchester, N.H.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad took to the hardwood for the first time in 2013-14 Friday evening as the Lions traveled to St. Anselm College, falling to the Hawks by a score of 76-46 in Stoutenburgh Gym.

The Lions (0-1) never led in the contest as St. Anselm (0-1) dominated the visitors, 32-14, in the first half, which included a stanza-high 20-point lead  (28-8) with 5:57 remaining before intermission. The Hawks coasted through the second frame, blowing open the lead to a game-high 36 points (76-40) with 2:28 left on the clock.

The victory marks the first for St. Anselm since December 6, 2012 as the Hawks lost the final 17 games of the 2012-13 season en route to a 4-22 campaign.

Tori Lehr (Sr.-Cohasset, Mass.) paced the St. Anselm offense with an opening night double-double, which included a game-high 19 points, to go along with 10 rebounds, in 22 minutes. Fellow starters Briana Jones (Sr.-White Plains, N.Y.) and Candace Andrews (Fr.-Boston, Mass.) also posted double digits in the scoring column with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Tahira Matthews was the lone offensive threat for GCU as the redshirt junior tallied a double-double of her own with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in 35 minutes. Ashiri Broadwater came within one point and one rebound of a double-double in her Georgian Court debut as the Chicago, Illinois native collected nine points and nine boards in 28 minutes.

The Lions remain in New Hamphire's capital city for another day as GCU visits Southern New Hampshire University (0-1) Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
