Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad suffered its third straight defeat Monday evening in the GCU Wellness Center as the Lions dropped a 63-54 decision to visiting College of St. Rose in non-conference action.
The Golden Knights even their record at 4-4 while GCU tumbles to 1-6 on the year.
In a hideous offensive showing for both clubs, St. Rose outshot the home team by a slim margin of 26.9% to 26.1%. The two teams bombed from beyond the three-point arc, shooting a combined 5-for-34 (14.7%). The Golden Knights did not inveigh in the least with regards to the Lions' 28 personal fouls, which provided 48 free throw attempts and 34 points for the visitors(70.8%). GCU shot 14-for-17 from the charity stripe.

Mariah Lesure (Jr.-Amherst, Mass.) layup represented the game's first points as St. Rose took a 2-0 lead 2:33 after the opening tip.
Ashiri Broadwater's lay-in tied the game at 6-6 with 13:21 remaining in the half, which would be as close as Georgian Court would get as the Lions would never own a lead on this particular night.
Desiree Simmons' (Sr.-Newark, N.J.) layup at 7:25 completed a 10-0 run by the Golden Knights and provided a 16-6 advantage for St. Rose. A second spurt, this time of the 10-7 variety, gave the guests a stanza-high lead of 26-13. The Lions outscored St. Rose, 8-0, over the final 1:57 to splice the deficit to 26-21 going into intermission.
GCU inched within one point when a
Jameka Parsons jumper made the score 30-29 Golden Knights. St. Rose's lead would remain in single digits for the remainder of regulation with the final score representing the largest differential of the half.
Simmons netted a game-high 20 points, which included a 10-for-12 performance from the free throw line, while snaring six rebounds and a game-best four steals. Lesure compiled a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 boards and five blocks.
Gabie Polce (Jr.-Chelmsford, Mass.) dropped in 13 points and collected three swipes.
Sarah Illingworth (So.-Quechee, Vt.) grabbed 10 rebounds and scored six points, all free throws.
Broadwater's 17 points topped the Lions' roster while
Tahira Matthews, Parsons, and
Tara Steakin each scored nine apiece. Matthews also led GCU on the glass with seven rebounds.
Georgian Court returns to the floor Wednesday evening when they host Adelphi University at 6:00 p.m.
