Lions Drop Third Straight with 78-72 Defeat at Concordia

Bronxville, N.Y. – Senior Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y.) scored a season-high 36 points for Concordia as the Clippers captured a 78-72 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Georgian Court University (7-16, 6-11 CACC) on Thursday evening.

The Lions opened up the game with a 5-0 advantage but the Clippers would take a 10-9 lead with 13:37 left in the opening period. Concordia would use a 9-0 run to take a 30-18 lead and then opened up an 18 point lead at 42-24 with 3:49 remaining in the half. Georgian Court would close the half on a 15-2 run but the Clippers would hold a 45-39 advantage going into the locker room.

The Lions would cut their deficit to two points early in the second half but Concordia would gain a double-digit lead following a three-point basket by Agard at the 11:44 mark. Georgian Court would make another run at the Clippers got back within three points with 1:50 left in the game.

With time running out the Lions had no choice but to foul in hopes of having a chance to tie the game. Agard would connect on 5-of-6 foul shots to seal the win for Concordia (8-16, 7-9 CACC) as the Clippers held on to a 78-72 victory.

Agard's 36 points, which a personal best at Concordia, came off 6-of-13 shooting from the field and an impressive 22-of-25 shooting display from the foul line. She also added a game-high 12 rebounds in 38 minutes of action. The Clippers connected on nine three-point baskets in the game and shot 21-of-61 (34.4%) as the team has now won six of their last eight conference games.

Shauneia McPhearson registered her fifth 20+ point game as she led the Lions with 23 points, which included a 7-for-8 effort from the free throw line. Tahira Matthews dropped in 21 points in 22 minutes off the GCU bench. Christina White snagged a team-high 12 boards for Georgian Court.

Georgian Court looks to rebound on Saturday as the Lions head to Waterbury, Conn. for a CACC contest at Post University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
