Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University Women's Soccer squad, after a rain delay of 1:10, finally took the pitch for the first time in 2013 Thursday afternoon as the Lions slashed the Wildcats of Wilmington University, 1-0, in CACC action.
After a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation, GCU's
Taylor Reinecke broke the 0-0 stalemate at 98:48 as the graduate student, following a Wilmington infraction just above the visiting 18', laced a shot through the defensive wall formed by the Wildcats, which proceeded to redirect into the right-side corner of the net.
For Reinecke, it was her first tally for Georgian Court since scoring in a 4-0 victory over Dominican College in the 2009 CACC seminfinals (11/05/09).
The Lions (1-0, 1-0 CACC) outshot the reigning CACC champions (0-3, 0-1 CACC), 12-5, and held a 7-3 advantage in the corner kicks column.
GCU goalkeeper Casey O'Connor earned the shutout and victory with three total saves. Wilmington's
Julia Brown suffered the defeat, tallying four saves in the effort.
Georgian Court stays in conference with an 11:00 a.m. contest at Bloomfield College this Saturday.
