Men's Basketball Outlasted by Philly U., 83-63, in CACC Opener for Both Squads

J.D. Rodriguez
Lakewood, NJ- The Lions battled a solid Philadelphia University team in men's basketball on Thursday night, only to fall short after a torrid second-half shooting performance by the Rams, which pushed them to the victory, 83-63, Thursday evening in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference lid-lifter for both squads.

Georgian Court (2-2, 0-1 CACC) went toe-to-toe with Philadelphia (1-2, 1-0 CACC) by trading baskets in the first-half with the Rams going into intermission with a 31-22 lead. Philadelphia came out of the locker room "en fuego" as they shot a remarkable 71% from the floor on 17-24 shooting. The Rams were led by Nick Schlitzer (Sr.-Pottsville, Pa.) who put up 28 points while teammate Derek Johnson (Jr.-Conshohocken, Pa.) added 20 of his own.

For the Lions, J.D. Rodriguez (R-Fr. Perth Amboy) netted a career-high 19 points, including 4-for-6 from three-point land while reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, Juwuan Carter (Fr. Paterson, NJ), added 14. Once again, the GCU defense played well by forcing 19 turnovers, while recording 12 steals.

The Lions return to action as they head to Mercy College for a Saturday afternoon non-conference showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm.
